Aftermarth of a Boot !

After I had spent hours desiging a boot skin I loaded it to check the quality and workings. ( I have built 100`s ) This one crashed my system putting it into a loop, reboot anfter reboot. I had to completely rebuild my system. I guess this little gem is a sort of virus. Dont worry I havnt set it to wincustomize and its in a secure file awaiting some experiementation.
Can some one please tell me what could have happened ? How did I invent a package like this from an image.. PS I called it 0101 yours Dune 2996 member confussed !

i wunder if the name useing 1's and 0's could have done something...i believe that a pc's basic languageis all 1's and 0's...u could have stumbled on to a reboot command or something ?

maybe he forgot to feed the mouse inside.. i hear them things die with lack of food.. thas why im constantly spillin sodas and pizza in to mine ......

Maybe he actually followed the "process" he posted as a "news" article on the home page of Win Customize! His computer probably puked in retaliation. How is it that everything else on this site gets moderated but news articles which are prominently displayed on the home page can be posted by any Tom, Dick, or dune? Talk about unprofessional...

I doubt it, but to be sure open it up and make sure there are only about 7 lines in the ini file if you are paranoid

It's always a good idea to run a virus scan on anything you download from the net. Having said that, bootskins are downloaded as a zip with three files, two .bmp files and an .ini file. The .ini is the only one that has any code that could be executed, and it is only activated by the bootskin program. Unless there is a huge vulnerability in the bootskin program, which I doubt, an .ini file with sufficient code to be a virus or trigger a virus would simply be rejected as an improperly formatted .ini by bootskin. So unless the zip contains a file beyond those three previously mentioned, I have a hard time seeing how the bootskin file could carry a virus.

that wasn't the point. Other code could be put in to wreck your computer that is not a virus.

Question is, are you sure it was the bootskin? The only way for you to really find out is if you went into safe mode and deleted it and was able to start up windows fine. But by what you said, you just reinstalled everything again. At least that is what I'm getting out of "I had to completely rebuild my system". It could of been something else, not a virus or anything. But something weird like a missing .dll file or a important file somewhere went missing or glitched. Maybe you did a update on something and didn't reboot for a while then you rebooted, had a conflict. Anything is possible.

Well chaps...I did make up an image, I did load it to my skins file...Then it became a boot skin...I then checked the files one by one same old stuff image 16 bitmap (the bootskin as .bookskin) then the .ins file checked of accuracy...Then the bar.bitmap everything ok well set as boot and try.
I can find nothing in the files hidden or otherwise.I can find nothing unsuual at all.
But still it put my pc in a loop which I could not break, it would not even except the command of "del" to enter my boot set up in bios. I could not get to safemode. This gives me the impression that someone or something must have given an instruction somewhere..
My one and only point is obvious...Be carefull guys...We all down and up load daily, even the best software can not keep up with these damn alful computer geeks who think it fun to write this kind of (***t).
And yes I do believe it prudent to check a zip file off item by item it the author is not know to you.
Finally, I think Win Customize should give a star rating to clean, (original) work then we have a code of honor to follow and downloaders have a quality download with top authors. It also would cut out the so called wannabeees of the image world..

thats what i was concerned about. a skin not intended to be malicious, but destroys a boot up anyway. with something so touchy, who tests them out?
