Addition to FAQ?

Monday, January 12, 2004 by Rocky Nimda | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

How about adding an entry to the FAQ for this Message Board that shows how to do some of the special formatting. I have seen a few threads where these items are discussed, but then when I want to use them, I have to hunt for the location of the thread that had the info in it. It's pretty easy to use bold and underline, but some of the other things aren't quite so strait forward.

Like adding non-standard smileies.

I don't know how to make RED text.
Is it like this RED?

There are probably lot's of other things that can be done also, and having them in an easy to find location would be helpful.

As you can see, my attempt at RED text didn't work.

Rocky Admin: The 'red' text is for speaking in the 3rd person. You can do it by typing in a forward slash and then the word 'me' with no spaces. I can't type the exact text because it would do this: werewolf Everything between the aforementioned text and a line feed will be red, but the sentence will start with your nick.

Try that a few times, it's pretty easy

Which they flaunt shamelessly from time to time.

What is the best way to see if a thread has been updated that you are curently reading? I usally hit "Return to Message Board" then see if it has been updated, but this requires leaving the thread. Can you simply hit the browser's refresh button? Again, if these things were in a FAQ that was easy to locate, like the one at the top of this Message Board, it would be of great assistance.

you could use SD central.

Kona,

I do use SD central when at home on my computer that has it. But I am not always on that computer.

But I'm not sure what that does for me as far as knowing all the tricks.

Do you mean as far as it showing new additions to the thread automatically?

Sometimes that works pretty slow. After I read a thread for a while, I usally want to update to see if soemone else has posted a new posting before I post.

I am really new to SDC so I can't really say.

I just hit F5 to refresh all the time as I use IE.

Using the Wincusto browser atm, but on here, there is a little magnifying glass looking icon which, when clicked, will notify you, by email if a particular thread has been updated. That really is a slow way to do it. If you are sitting at your computer for a long period of time, just try to remember what number the last post was. In Wincuso, all the updated threads go to the top of the pile.
