Wallpaper moderation gone wacky...

Saturday, January 10, 2004 by GreatSilverWyrm | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Is it just me, or has the wallpaper moderation gone nuts...

I read the guidelines...it says no XP-Related walls, unless really innovative/original...

looking at some recent submissions, I see a few really shotty XP walls, so I think mine has a chance, as it's a good bit better than they are..
but I submit, and it gets denied...

I may just be bitter that I got denied here, or there actually may be something to it...or a bit of both...

anyway, I was just wondering if an admin or something would give some sort of explanation as to what you look for when moderating walls...

Why was my amazing wallpaper rejected?

Your own, personal pet project is YOUR 'wonderful masterpiece'....to YOU, but not necessarily to everyone or even anyone else. It is a 'right' to submit works to the site, but it is a 'privilege' to have them accepted/approved. There are many reasons for 'rejection', but they tend to boil down to a general consensus by the site's Administrators that the work just isn't quite as good as it 'could' be, or is of a lesser 'standard' than that which IS accepted.

Prime directive is that the Wallpaper section is for wallpapers, not for renditions by Picasso. The quality of 'artiness' is not a criteria for acceptance. Wincustomize.com is a site for skinners and their work, and wallpapers are just one part of a GUI 'skin', a means, not an end. Because every man and his dog aspires to 'wallpaper greatness', we get predictably too many wall submissions, which, if all were accepted, would totally swamp the site, making its use/participation far less enjoyable.

Something else to consider...........................
Wincustomize.com is a SKINNING site, and not a Wallpaper site. It/we host wallpapers as they are a PART of the whole GUI skinning process. They are NOT the bee's knees of skinning, nor are they the prime 'directive' for a site such as a skinning site. There are countless Wallpaper sites available on the net in all forms and all genres, but there are essentially only a handful of Skinning sites, of which this is the largest. It can and does remain online due to careful management of content which, amongst other things, requires limitations be set on submissions to the wall section because, and for no other reason, that section would, if not controlled, totally sink this site beneath a flood of walls, to the detriment of all the other skin sections.

from the faq page here at wincustomize, hope it answers your question.
