Maybe the 'rules'are a little blurry when it comes to photo art. There isnt a rule against it.I like seeing the occasional outstanding piece. The 2 canoe's pic would have made it in my book.It is better than a heap of stuff that is already here. However I dont want to see Winc. become a DA by any means.

The rules on wallpaper should be just that -do they make a good wallpaper?

I don't like elitism.

Frogboy there seems to be some disagreement as to what makes a 'good' wallpaper.I've had several walls rejected because it was felt that they were not a good backdrop for icons.(even tho that definition would been grounds for rejecting nearly a 1000 walls already here)

.Many of us dont use icons on the desktop,OD and the start menu take care of most of the chore for me.I dont want icons cluttering up my theme. So the only criteria for me is does it compliment it.

A lot of the abstract stuff are useless as wallpapers. Usually there's too much detail and contrast where the icons go to make them usable.

Perhaps an 'adjustment' in moderation criteria would cure this with a greater emphasis on usability.

I gotta disagree Fuzzy...'useability'dosnt even enter into it it for a lot of us.I just want an image that looks nice. Why should my work be excluded just because someone dosnt think icons wont look good on it.No one is forcing people that do use icons to dl it.Now if its just a sucky image...well...I guess I have a few of those too.I delete anything of mine that dosnt at least reach a 6.

Sorry, I'm a day behind.

#11 by Admin KarmaGirl - 1/6/2004 1:45:01 PM : However, DA is not moderated. you can upload anything there

This is false, they do moderate. It's just they look for certain things. If it's in the right category and if it's against their new rules they put about posting.

I read pretty much everything else and I'm not getting into the middle of this. I believe that only the rare photos should be accepted and the rest people can post over at DA if they follow the guidelines. That's what I did. And if you look at the name of the site it tells you more of what the site is about.. "WinCustomize" "Windows customization".

Weaksid...to all intents and purposes Devart IS not moderated.

Restricted content is a tenuous determination of 'pornography', and the word 'nigger' finds disfavour.

However if one wishes to racially vilify any segment of the world's community [other than black Americans] in the guise of 'artistic' free expression then that is allegedly entirely OK [from past example].

There is no limitation on standards of content as all is considered 'art' of one form or another.

It took a lot of coaxing to have various sections take a more responsible stance regarding copyright and plagiarism [ripping, as it's called], and certainly did not exist from the site's inception.

This is a fault of Devart's allowing self-moderation to all where the potential exists for any 'ripping' to only be dealt with after it's public, rather than before, as is the case with sites which 'moderate' via admin overseeing.

The two sites, Devart and here have different modus operandi which makes them appealing to people in different ways, and with freedom of choice comes freedom of preference...

Really both sites are very important to the skinning community. I can't believe we're even discussing the merits of one over the other.
They both have their place, and are diverse in the information they share.I would be lost without access to both sites, as I'm sure quite a few others here would be as well.
I hope soon the conflicting words and disparaging remarks, from both sides will end , as it lowers the respect outsiders who come into these sites have for the hard work both site's artists have posted.

i too hate the icon ... they are annoying and clutter up a desktop...i prefer my screen neat and concise. a good looking image in the back drop in my opinion shouldnt be covered wit lil images of stuff i rarely use ...i never need the my network one ..i clik a button on the sysmeter to empty the trash bin..besides i run litestep so most my shortcuts are added to the wharf bars... no muss no fuss

Ok, shoot me.... I’m late to the party..... Again >
Concentrating on the all around concept of 'Wallpapers' I guess the public view [or in this case - The public use] is what matter. A lot of photographic pictures make great wallpapers; Win XP includes some great ones. I kind of like the one that is the cause of this recent tread.
Moderators have a point when they state that WC is a primary skinning site that houses wallpapers and the site is well known for their method of moderation on this category, never the less, wallpaper submissions should be view and moderated equally, whether is an abstract, photo, 3D, scenery, etc.

BTW. Keep in mind that the appearance of the PC is up to the person's taste. Some people like to have 50 icons on their desktop some others like none, that's the beauty of 'customizing'

So HELP me here please! Are photo wallpapers welcome here? Will they receive equal, normal, fair appraisal? What is the verdict? How does Wiccustomize want it?

submit them and find out, there is no harm in them getting rejected, and maybe one might make it. There are photos in the wallpaper category, just few.
