Time limits & Crippling. . .

Wednesday, December 3, 2003 by Stupendous Man | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I had the public version of IconPackager but upgraded to the reg. version, and was wondering why it was both time limited AND crippled?

Imo one or the other would be sufficient. Especially the time limit. That's why *I* registered.

This is something you should take up with Stardock at the Stardock site...

Any opinions or otherwise coming from this site are just that, opinions.
Unless of course someone from Stardock happens to pop into the site and
decide to answer your question.

anyway....

I've one for you, a question that is.

If you have purchased IconPacker, then what is the point in worrying about
how Public(Trial) products are released?

the timelimit and cripples got you to buy it didn't it? Thats the point for both of them.

Most software released in 'trial' format is 'crippled' in one form or another...and depending on the proggy's purpose/function may be time-limited as well.

Stardock has generally released alpha and beta versions of its programs with time-limits to remind the user to update to newer releases as they are an on-going development.

The 'crippling' is to provide a 'taste' of the proggy's capabilities but naturally to entice its purchase.

You can test-drive a car, but you cannot take it home and put it in your garage unless you pay for it...

When you say regular version are you talking about the paid version? If so, it won't be time limited.

Ok, permit me to clear a couple things up.

1) IPlural (cool name btw.

My question was NOT a complaint, just one of curiosity. Imo one or the other is sufficient. How Stardock chooses to market it's software is their business (pun intended). I was just curious.

2)Jafo & Travis

Purchasing the proggie is not a problem. In concurrance with another thread on this site, I agree completely that WC is an excellent site that SHOULD be supported by those that find it and the skins here useful/appealing. I don't expect all that I find here to be free because there's alot that goes into keeping a sight like this running. And believe me, I have only begun to buy.

Like I said, it's just curiosity.

Thats cool, papidon...

Not having all the other parts on real life conversation I was not sure exactly how it was being presented. Also yesterday wasn't one of my best and I let it color my perception on many things including the begining of this thread. Sorry about that...
