Trips down Memory Lane
exploring ancient history

Well, I've been having a little adventure over the past couple of days... I went to the WB skins page, then jumped to the end, and started paging forward a page at a time, looking at the really old skins!
I've been using WB since at least 2000, and it was cool to scroll down memory lane a bit. Of course, most of the old skins, without taskbar content, cannot be used on the desktop, but I have my console (i.e., DOS terminal) set to use different skins than the desktop (via Per Application -> Use specified style), so I can at least partially utilize them. I remember many of those skins, which were very lovely and imaginative... it is also a nice reminder of a time when skins were routinely free, which isn't so common any more.
It was cool, also, to be reminded of ancient theme designers who have fallen by the wayside over time... Patricia/APB, DavidK/lightstream, Sandra Haggard, treetog, to name a few. It *is* a shame that there isn't any easy way to import those old schemes into the modern SkinStudio, because some were really wonderful... but especially with the older skins that don't have taskbar elements, it would take a real artist (which I'm not) to do the added work!!
And once I got into the 400s or so, I started getting into more skins from the WinXP era, which *do* have taskbar data, though they don't draw the active-taskbar-icons quite correctly... some of these, including WBWOOD, Capsula, and others, are very fond memories of that ancient era... and work well enough that I can still use them on the desktop!
So anyway, this post is just intended to celebrate a couple of decades of my experience with WB !! May it continue to thrive for many more years...

I've done the same! Capsula was the skin that pulled me in...thanks for your post. A dose of nostalgia and appreciation for that which went before and brought beauty to so many desktops. Thanks to so many people, Brad's Stardock the roof over our heads, Neil, the devs who gave us the apps and artists, and the membership of WC which appreciated those artists, then and now...
