No response from stardock

Monday, November 24, 2003 by WebGizmos | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

First, let me say that I have nothing but good things to say in general about Stardock products, WinCustomize and all the great skinners here, and this is NOT at all about bashing anyone. But the problem I have had on several occasions has been in writing to Stardock support and never receiving a response back other than the auto response. And I should add that I have been very patient and waited over a week for a response, rather than the 3 business days suggested, and which is now almost 2 weeks.

I have an ongoing problem the started after installing the newest version of WindowBlinds4.19. I have had several people here make suggestions in trying to fix this problem but nothing has worked as of yet. The problem is that after I updated/installed WB's4.19b, and then tried to open it, I keep getting a "WBload.exe has encountered a problem and has to close" which also then renders WB's3.51 inoperable as well and I have to uninstall all WB's and start all over again. This all began after downloading the Beta version of WB's4.19. I have uninstalled, zapped, rebooted, and reinstalled several times and still have the problem.

If this problem cannot be resolved, will it be possible to download a stand alone version of WindowBlinds4.19 so that WindowBlinds3.51 is not continually corrupted and I have to re-download things all over again and again? I would also appreciate knowing who the big cheeses are at both Stardock and WinCustomize, as in who I would contact to get the answers needed for problems.

Some Stardock proggies are listed in Add/Remove because they can be had as stand alone programs. Having said that, you can install and un-install thru SDC without reverting to the Control Panel.

If you have un-installed WB completely and you open SDC, it should show as I described above and you can install as instructed.

Ok...back to the drawing board After uninstalling Wb & Wb4 again...Zapping... deleting the wbload.exe files...doing the Add/Remove of WB's...hiding the WB3.51 version in SDC...rebooting...and reinstalling WB4...it worked again...I applied a skin...and then when I restarted my PC and tried to open WB's4 again I was right back to square one. So I'm game for any more ideas as to what could be causing this.

And for the record...this PC is only a few months old and SDC is the only program I've downloaded. And as I said before, everything was working fine untill I downloaded the beta version of Wb4.

So...what would be the more drastic measure of restoring it back to a working program? Deleting all of SDC & ObjectDesktop and starting from scratch?

When you try to open WB, are you using WBload.exe or WBconfig.exe? I assume it's starting up OK on re-boot and goes south when you try to change skin.

After a couple phone calls, he has it fixed.  He was trying to load a new instance of it through Stardock Central versus just changing the skin in the appearance tab.  essentially, he was trying to start his car after it was already started, and it wasn't happy with it.  All is fine and good now.

Yes! A big thanks goes out to KarmaGirl! As she said, after several phone calls we were able to figure out why I was stuck in the information culdesac And a big thanks goes out to Yrag as well for all his help and patience with this problem Thats what I get for clicking one to many "ok" buttons, I guess I was suffering from "OK" burn out Since I was able to access the 3.51 version of WB's I just assumed I could do the same with WB4...NOT! (insert dunce smiley here)
