WinPatrol

I had used this program before, and now I am trying it again. I think it is impressive. One thing that is really good for someone like me is that it explains what things are instead of just giving me some anagram. It is a good teacher. I still use AdAware, but it is having to remove far fewer things these days.

WinPatrol with Scotty the Windows Watch Dog will sniff out Worms, Adware, Spyware, Cookies, Trojan horses and other virus type, malicious, nasty programs that may attack your computer. WinPatrol puts you back in control of your computer with no need for constant updates.
WinPatrol's goal is to help you better understand what programs are running on your computer, and alert you to any new programs added without your permission. Scotty lets you confirm any new programs set up to run on your computer.

Very nice program. Thanks for posting it. I've never heard of it. Like you I need all the help I can get.
I'm thinking of getting the plus, Do you have it? If so, is it worth the money?

Na, I don't have it. Try running just the free for awhile, then you will have some idea. I may, sometime, get the plus version. I see some places that it might help. It is cheap enough.

I have been running this for a short while now and it is a pretty good program. I love that it warns you of things added to your startup menu. That can come in very handy.

This program is now updated to version 7. It now watches host files for changes!

I've been running Winpatrol for some time now and it works great. The one thing I have found though...is that it will alert you that something is trying to add itself to your startup menu, but it doesn't actually remove it.

So...when you do get an alert, make note of the address or location of the file so that you can go back and remove it yourself.

Another good little tool is "regseeker" for cleaning out your registry or finding things in your registry that have been added by spyware or adware programs. As with any tool just make sure you read about what it does before you start deleting things. Reseeker does make backups of d files in case you should something you shouldn't have.

When I first got my PC I used Add/Remove to get rid of AOHell on my PC, or at least I thought I removed it. Using regseeker, I found 150 additional files in my registry pertaining to AOHell.

And Spybot S&D is another great tool!

I found this site that might help when WinPatrol tells you about something new in the startup list but you don't know what it is....
