An inspiring wallpaper creater

Hey all. I have been admiring many of the authors' creations on this site. I love them all, they are all very creative and unqiue. For the longest of times I have wished to create my own, and have been learning to use Adobe Photoshop 7.0. The question that I ask is that where exactly should I start in creating good wallpapers? What are some key things to keep in mind, or some tips and hints that could help me perfect my wallpaper? Any and every comment will be greatly appreciated. To all those who have done wallpapers so well, great job, and thanks to anyone who can offer some insight.
