Windowblinds causing total ofice xp failure

Wednesday, November 19, 2003 by Richard_Adkins | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Whenever I run Windowblinds and open a dialouge box in any office xp program the program drops to the desktop exiting the program completely. If I unload Windowblinds this does not happen. I LOVE windowblinds but can NOT live without Office. I'm running Windows XP Home and, of course, Office XP Professional. I'd LOVE to hear there is a remedy for this.

I am sitting here with Excel, Word and Outlook open and no problems. Must be something more specific wrong. Have you used skins from a variety of authors? What skin are you using? What version of WB are you using? Check your User Over-rides and Basic Settings, anything unusual there?

First question would be 'which skin are you using'?...so we may attempt to replicate the error and demonstrate where the fault may be.

WB is fine on mine with Office running.....so unless it's an iffy install of WB it is not the proggy itself, but a skin or an external system issue...

In 'Per Application' settings in WB Config., exclude each proggie (.exe) that is giving you problems.

Wow no such problems here. Occasionally someone reports some issue with an Office app, but to my knowledge there's no known issue that universally renders using WB and Office XP impossible. I use Word and Excel regularly and virtually have WB on all the time. Haven't excluded anything from Office in WindowBlinds.

Hope you can get this resolved.

yrag - used your idea and it is doing the trick. I run the XP Corona small titlebar skin but the unpleasantness happens with eery skin and it happens on both of my computers. I'm just lucky I guess. I really appreciate the quick response from so many people.

Richard....it'd be handy to post what version of WB you are using....so perhaps it can be replicated/verified.....and specifically name a skin that fails...[not just say all do, as you won't have tried then ALL]...

Right you are, I'm using WB 4.09 build 108. I haven't tried every skin, of course, but I have tried about a dozen. Same result with each and only in Office XP apps. The apps load and run fine as long as I do not try to do something that requires the opening of a dialogue box. When a dialogue box begins to open the entire app exits immediately and completly. fyi.

An example of why the specific skin can be an issue....I currently run GT2 by Tiggz....a quite attractive and competent skin which, however instantly shuts down ACDSee v3 on loading, but, by simply excluding that proggy and using one of my own skins set specifically for that proggy I have no problem.

My skin is an old one, without many of the XP-specific details/options....but it doesn't harm ACDSee's functioning at all.

All my proggies are skinned, just not all with the same skin....so it's clear that certain skins will definitely affect some proggies....

Just food for thought...

If the problem still persists, have you considered a reistall of WB and Office? I know it may be a pain, but you would have a fresh install of both...

I've done the un/re install of both, no help.

Richard - go back to the question on the version you're using....if you're using 4.09 you're not even using the released version, little lone the newest beta version.......
