Javascript Text banner: Can anyone help me?

I am trying to create a text banner or 'ticker' across a page on my website. I want it to use the RSS feeds form here and other customization/art sites and webblogs but I am at a total loss as to where to start or for that matter where to find info on it.
If you have any info on it I would appreciate it. For the most part I want to understand how it works.
The how do you get it to read the XML (RSS) feeds?

I didn't get a chance to try the script, but I figured that the way Crae was saying I could do it in general should work. Maybe I'll try to make it a drop down list for different categories (somehow I think it would work; it sounds feasible with regular DHTML)
I think I'll get re-excited when I figure out a way to make it all work in some kind of cool way.
I LOVE the fact that people will be able to get at information on stuff that they might not otherwise have found.
I get a natural high sometimes when I help people (especially when they don't notice) and that is why I really want this RSS feed thing to work and work cool.
