Why do they want bitmaps? Zipped bitmaps? Why not zipped jpegs?

I submitted my last one as a zipped jpeg too... it's not yet approved... and my ratings are always 4 or 5 and I get more rejections than ones approved 
soo, it's good to know that I can send zipped jpegs, cause they as you note are much smaller.

Dont get discourage, not every artist starts with high ratings or downloads. I dont pay much mind to the ratings, Its good when others give you a high rating, it means that the design has a lot of appeal, but I take downloads over ratings any time.
From what I've seen in your gallery, you have some nice sky/scenery work. Maybe if you dabble a little more variation you'll get more accpeted work

When speaking of bitmaps, it doesn't mean file extension .bmp, it means bitmap image. There are 2 types of image files, vector and bitmap, bitmap is also known as a raster image. Vector is basically a file of mathematical points and lines infinetly scaleable and super low in file size. Bitmap/Raster files are all pixel based, they can be scaled down and still look right, but cannot be scaled up without loss of quality.
tiff's, gif's, jpg's, png's, bmp's and many others are all bitmap image file types, but I think for a background wallpaper the only types that you can use are jpg's, bmp's, and gif's
Personally I always use jpg's, because you can easily adjust quality, and even at maximum quality is still smaller than a bmp. Gif's dont have much use because you can only use 256 colors, where jpgs have millions of colors in it's pallete.

Thanks for inputs and encouragement everyone. My last wallpaper got accepted and has been downloaded almost 1000 times today! It was given a 6 rateing. They highest Ive ever gotten. And I look at the RodiumX wallpaper that got a ten...oh well, you are right Apocalypse... best to keep working and try harder.
