Windows Blinds Slows Computer

Saturday, November 1, 2003 by TheLenko | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Does anyone else have problems with windows blinds slowing down their computers? I was wondering if anyone has any solutions to how to make it run faster.

My Specs:
AMD Atholon 1600+ (1.4ghz)
512ddr ram
GeForce 4 ti4200
Do most of you who use skins out there have lik super computers or somthing? Cause some of these skins i've tried slow your computer down a lot!

Thanks for all the help!!!!

Is TheLenko the only other Athlon user here? Come on people, Intel is LOSING the CPU race to the Athlon 64. Yes...The two As. ATI and AMD. Have them and you will have a nice machine. No performance issues with any UIS2 skins. 1GB of RAM.

Spybot Search and Destroy rules!

So does MSconfig and the Services snap-in.

Xendre64.... No, theLenko is not the only other AMD user..... I am one also.

My machine is very close to TheLenko's................... I haven't noticed any slow-down with WB.

Sounds good, Kona. I'm planning to keep my AMD 2000+ for another year or three. It'll do until next version of Winblowz comes out. Then I think I'll build a dual-AMD box.

Scribe Frogboy OS is really important I'd say.

yeah I'd think so too, especially if someone is wondering why an application seems to be dropping anchors on them...

Hiya Jam hope all is well with you!

NO longhorn for me. I will stick to XP (although do to only having 64 MB of RAM right now until my ebay purchases get here I am stuck with a suprisingly very STABLE Windows ME.)

WinME was never, ever "stable" for me, but I'll swear by WinXP...

Citizen r3fr, you have a good idea. That would be one of my recommendations too. But, the wrong program. Spybot Search and Destroy is a much better spyware killer. It also searches for bad registry references which can also slow down the computer. Optimizing your registry is important. If you have never done it before you may notice a hundred bad references. But, be careful. It is better to repair misplaced references than deleting ones that you are unfamilar with. If you mess up your registry, you can kiss windows goodbye. Spybot is free.

Yeah, I think you have to pay for the full version of Ad-Aware, but i'm not sure. Also Lenko, you might run disk defragger once, twice, or a thrice time to get them fragged files in order.

try diskkeeper. works better at defraging a drive than the regular windows defrag.

and diskkepper lite is free.

I have a 2.2ghz Celeron w/256 megs of RAM and I do not experience any problems with WB or anything else I run on this rig, which is a Gateway btw.

Oh and Diskeeper Lite is the built in defrag in WinXP btw..(just open defrag then click help, then about, its made by Executive Software)it isnt so hot, but Diskeeper Pro is a champ, I really like the set it and forget it feature, really useful.

TasT has been relegated to using the server. Wife is Sick and I needed out of the house and the server is in the garage.

gahmmmm... no one seems to have Celron processors here.I wonder why???

The household server is a dual 500 MHz Celeron system and it works fine, though it no longer has any stardock products on it, when it did I had no problem.
