If you send a link to an Ebay auction to someone you think will be interested, is it spam? If so, Ebay has spamming features built in. Even if they can define it, they can't regulate servers outside the US. There are ancient warez sites that can't be touched by anyone right now because of their location. Numerous 'fringe' nations are becoming havens for such people. Another problem is, corporate America refuses to agree to a blanket ban on commercial unsolicited email. Microsoft won't agree to any spam law that prevents their 'corporate partners' from sending unsolicited email. The horrible shame of it is that this kind of garbage is gonna destroy the ability for kids to fully realize the potential of the internet. I made a fake email address to post to a messageboard for the LOGO programing language (mainly for kids) and I had porn spam within 4 days. I constantly get emails from people who think I want to enlarge both my penis AND my breasts... The only way to legislate the internet is to build walls into it, allowing it to be regulated (filtered) by area. That would be an awful thing, but I honestly expect something along those lines in the future. I just don't think people will tolerate what a free, unfiltered internet will eventually become. Once the infrastructure is commercialized it will become a big mall, and the excuse will be spam and all the unwanted sickness imposed on users. It is a shame that greedy sick people have to louse things up. |

#4 by BakerStreet - 10/25/2003 8:17:55 PM I think it is hugely funny that some laws require spammers to put a 1-800 number in the email so people can call and give their email addresses so that: a) they won't get any spam? or  spammers will have huge lists of valid emails to sell to other spammers.Heck, half the spam I get are just people trying to find valid email addresses to sell. |

Spammers will downwload the list and use it as a free list of valid emails which they can spam.
