Using 0patch is well & good for personal/individual situations but it gets a little hairier when part of a corporate environment requiring adherence to certain security standards.  At present, for instance, if an application or OS is not HIPAA compliant and is used for medical applications, the user could be subject to major fines and exclusion from participation in Medicare.  Once MS stops officially providing security updates (OS is at EOL), it is no longer HIPAA compliant and I don't think "I used 0patch" will cut it in court.

Actually I do believe the two are intertwined here.

This also ties into my biggest complaint about Windows 11 and what brought me to start 11 in the first place. Windows 11's start menu.

The worst feature in Windows 11 is the FORCED recommendations section. If it is turned off then half the start menu is blank reminding the user that it needs turned back on. Why, because the recommendations are meant to be Microsoft ads for the Microsoft Store (i.e. needing your info). Microsoft was sneaky here because if a user turns it off it looks like a needed feature was turned off and annoys the user to turn it back on.

I do forget about this annoyance since it is fixed with start 11, but if ever there was an example of Microsoft using Windows 11 as a money making service it is with their start menu recommendation area. I know I shouldn't get too comfortable because ads are also being contemplated in Windows 11's explorer in future updates.

I suppose we may need to ask Neil to implement a custom file explorer now in start 11 version 1.3. jk

Again I'll ask you, what's more profitable: Giving you a free OS with the OEM buying it from MS and including the cost (plus profit) with the computer, or renting you the OS? Think Adobe. Once upon a time they sold Photoshop by version. Then came CS (creative suite) with many apps together which cost a bundle and whose "work arounds" were various warez , and now CC (creative cloud) with its rental on-off switch. Which was more profitable? 

Strictly from a profit standpoint, it would be dangerous to fumble. Windows Vista / Windows 8 are not that far removed from Microsoft history. Windows 11 may not be meant to be 100 percent free, hence the advertising and subscriptions. But every bad Microsoft OS has historically been skipped completely by users. Windows 7 can still be an option for some. So there is a careful line Microsoft needs to walk down and that is why their profiteering is more subtle. They need their OS to be a success.

Yes...so it's going to be a pain in the arse when MS moves the goal posts and forces people into a subscription basis...and businesses cannot choose an out.

The only option is to kick back hard and loud....but MS is bound to be somewhere between deaf, indifferent and brain dead...

I'd question whether W11 is HIPAA compliant...it has at least as many holes as a Swiss cheese...after all, MS's OS's are being security patched all the time. I never looked into it, but there are probably more HIPAA compliant OSs than MS's, although I could be wrong about that.

Seeing as a Computer can be used for so much more than just MS products, the idea of Win 11 becoming a Daas does not sit right in my head, not ever app and program used by peeps will have a MS store release, i think we will all have to continue to watch the news Boards, maybe the easiest fix at this time could be to set up with an MS account, then create another and giving it Admin privileges, then delete the original, all done through CMD ran as administrator.

I just do not see Windows as a service working for all users and the way they use there machines. Computers can do so much and are used in very different ways. If this is the future of Windows, i think it will be a massive shot in the foot for MS. This kind of model change is so alien to what it has been before. I am watching some of the better conversations on Reddit and fixes and workarounds are already in place, more to come. Like i have said previously, i am not really worried and will find a path to negate this. Lots of the convos i am part of, mostly dismiss this(some do not hence the possible fixes) as Win10 was originally meant to be the last, there was talk about it being a Waas , then all change again and Win 11 is here. The big thing we all know is MS lies, i would not be surprised if this does not come to pass and MS just Ramp up the Data stealing in more ways, again this has so many apps and stuff on the net to reverse this, no matter what happens with the future of Win 11 and maybe 12, there will always be ways and means of peeps using there computers how they want and not what MS wants.

We all know MS has shot themselves in the foot before, trying to push something radical on us and back tracked.

I'll forgive you....just don't make me watch any of the crap if I were ever to visit...

It is one of my Favourites already gave it the X265 treatment and added it to the collection, It's actually Called Zomboat. I was hoping for a season two but that does not look likely now. It is hilarious how the Canal boat it is set on, only just goes a tiny Tad faster than the Patient Zero Zombie and his band of followers chasing it for the whole season.

Do not worry Jafo, no enforced Star Wars in my home, Just plenty of very Cold Beer and a 30TB collection i seem to put more time into enhancing, than i do watching it, we can do a Zombie Night.

Just gone over those articles and the replies, the author has already listed a workaround and the most simple, log in with a Dummy MS account and set up a local later, then get rid of the MS one. The replies all have workarounds too, many IT peeps leaving replies doubt this article, it was also said Enterprise Editions will not work in the same way, if going by the replies carries any weight, many doubt this, not saying you are wrong Doc, but only being able to use your computer if you pay on an ongoing basis, i am not sure we are any closer to this right now, but time will tell. I am even less concerned after reading all the replies too.
