Object Desktop stability/CPU usage.
Wednesday, October 15, 2003 by samw5 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
I installed it on a test system at work and it seems to slow down (slower machine) a bit but mainly revs the CPU activity to the 10% neighborhood in idle which is a little too much for me (not sure how it would perform on my own system but I don't really wanna give it a try until I get some user feedbacks).
Also stability is a very important aspect since I'm already overclocking my rig pretty aggressively.
Anyways, if you guys would be so kind to let me know of your experience with OD (I'm looking at running pretty much everything, from WindowBlinds to DesktopX).
Cheers,
Sam

Hardest part will be to 1) get used to it and 2) pick a freaking theme!!!
Thanks again for the quick reply!

As for Windowsblind, like sir Hus said, no problem whatsoever, and performance hit.

Windowblinds will actually speed your PC up, not slow it down. It's a no-brainer...no XP user should be without it.
DesktopX itself has almost zero footprint. It all depends on the objects you use. If you are using heavy animation...well yes, it's gonna have a performance hit. If you are using simple text objects...you will see no noticeable speed difference.
IconPackager...obviously this can't affect performance...another program no XP user should be without.
WindowFX, yes there is a bit of a performance hit as it's pretty much an eye-candy tool. But with a PC like the one you have...it won't affect it THAT much. Just leave off transitions...
Keyboard Launchpad...another neat program...takes up 688k of RAM. Hardly a performance issue.
All the other programs don't really run constantly...I highly suggest ODNT to any PC user. It's like Pringles...once you start you can't stop.
