Saturday, October 11, 2003 by Drop125 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Okay..A while back when we had the big boot screen controversey going on..I said "Hey did anyone think to discuss this with ppl over at MS.." I was laughed at made fun of and in general "FLAMED" by everyone...Seems to me Frogboy got with some ppl and are now discusing a new proggy on the way...Now why when I suggested it did you ppl make fun of me..Especialy now that my observation and solution was used by Star dock.and reported on by Frogboy.???? or is it that my opinion and solution wasent good enough till uttered by Stardock????...

Sorry to hear that happened to you. It should not have.

Maybe they "Took your suggestion" and applied it.
As far as being FLAMED, well, that wasn't cool.

Hey thanks for apologizing for the remarks of others..It does mean something to me..I had mearly said in the thread that "Hey why not go ask microsoft" Everyone jumped on me saying things like that were completley unfeasable and Microsoft would never allow that to happen...all sorts of anti MS stuff..Im not for or against MS..They are doing a job that not alot of ppl can fully compete with..So We have to work with them..So Im glad Stardock disscussed this with Ms and a quality solution will follow..I am positive of this from you guys at stardock...

Drop125....as I recall you suggested that SD talk to MS to get its permission to use a "cracked" file for bootscreens. As Frogboy noted, SD had discussed replacing or "cracking" an MS file to use msstyles in WindowBlinds back when XP was known as Whistler and MS had said it would not approve. So MS' position on that sort of thing was clear long ago. And it hasn't changed. So getting "permission" from MS to use a cracked version of its file for bootscreens wasn't on the table.

And I don't recall that you were "FLAMED" as you now claim. At least, here are those threads in case anyone's interested:

https://www.wincustomize.com/newsboard.asp?id=1855

https://www.wincustomize.com/newsboard.asp?id=1861

And while SD has consulted with MS in the past and now on this issue, the approach SD ran by MS for its proposed bootscreen app does not involve replacing or cracking MS proprietary files. So things weren't quite as you portray them and now seem to want to get "credit" for.

Revisionism and the drama.

Including the part where you claim you were "laughed at made fun of and in general "FLAMED" by everyone."

Drop 125.. What do you want? Royalities for participating in a thread discussion? Sheesh. How about a Royal kick in the pants?

Can't take a joke? Well, nevermind.

I've read the thread in question and can find no evidence of anyone being flamed or being laughed at. Moreover the article itself was about third party hacks of NTKernel and the danger of such acts. Discussions between Stardock and Microsoft about a legitimate way of replacing the boot screen is an entirely different matter not related to the earlier discussion.

So to conclude we don't understand what your problem is. None of this makes sense

Stardock has a history of consultation with MS so it's nothing at all new to be doing so again here....
