Windowblinds theme causing Firefox to darken webpages?

Wednesday, January 5, 2022 by ScottBrio | Discussion: WindowBlinds

Hi there. I've been having difficulty with Windowblinds themes (the dark one I like anyways) changing the white background of websites in Firefox. It only does it with this browser, not Chrome or Safari. When I switch themes, like to a light colored one, it's fine.

I've excluded it from skinning in the Windowblinds 'per application' section, as well as unchecked the "allow Windowblinds to skin Firefox" in the Advanced tab, however it still persists to color the page which is very frustrating.

This is currently the only theme I like really because it darkens the notepad in addition to just being a nice, simple, and more robust dark mode for Windows.

I'd rather not have to use a different theme. Any help?

Cheers!

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. For Windowblinds, when using dark theme skin, usually the theme designer change Windows system colors. Usually, something like Windows background colors from default White to some dark color. When this is done. It will change every application that use Windows system color so if Firefox use the Windows system colors for that web page it will effect those.

BTW, what WB Skin you're using and what web page you're viewing which giving issue?

Thanks

Not sure about the skin but the website is Yelp. Just tried it with Night Shine & ran into the same issue.

Thanks for the reply, that makes sense. Google and Edge don't seem to have the same issue. Excluding Firefox from being skinned doesn't seem to work, although that would be an easy fix if it did.

I'm using the Distinct by IceBabee skin.

No excluding it from WB won't help, since, as mentioned, the "Windows System Colors" was changed.

Thank you,

This is being controlled in Firefox settings.  I tested this and Firefox is using Windows System colors to render webpages when this dark page occurred on Yelp.

Go to Firefox Settings and go to Colors -> Manage Colors.  Make sure Use System Colors is off.firefox settings

firefox colors

This will cause Firefox to use the Webpages own colors and fix your issue.

Indeed, thank you. The lack of replies & knowledge from those here from Stardock is incredibly disappointing, all they ever do is say they'll get in contact with someone else & get back to you but you're lucky if you ever get another reply.

What do you expect as an update for this issue? As mentioned, Windowblinds theme which change "Windows System Color" will effect all application that use "Windows System Color". So what you can do to solve it is if the application that have this issue is as what "BigDogBigFeet" suggested for Firefox above. But that solution is for firefox alone. For other application, the simplest way, and, I believe the only way, is to use Windowblinds theme that don't change "Windows System Color".

Thank you,

I expected exactly what was given, an answer to the question & a solution if available.

"...that solution is for firefox alone."

You are correct, but then the title of this topic specifies Firefox does it not?

bobj420.  basj gave good support of how Windowblinds indirectly caused the webpage to render dark by stating the theme changed the Windows System Color to dark.  At that point anyone reading this post could examine how Firefox was using Windows System Colors and, as I did, look for a setting to change the behavior of Firefox.

I believe based on the OP's posts that he was looking for an update to Windowblinds.  Yet there was no bug or feature to correct in Windowblinds.

Please remember to apply some self-help when looking for support.  How effectively you use your OS and applications like Firefox is up to you.

Look, I asked a question & it was answered, much appreciated.

As to my opinion of the staff, it's just that, an opinion, no need to like it.
