Boot Screens> Give your thoughts

Saturday, October 4, 2003 by X_FiLeS | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Just like to know if wincustomize could put boot screens? because i would like to see them on this site if possible, you do have logon screens and it would be good to also have boot screens.

Please give me your thoughts on this subject.

Thanx Goodmorphing i did'nt know the subject already came up, yes i realize now that some agree and some disagree, i think if there was an area where there was bootup screens that the people how wants them can then use them, and the people how don't want don't have to go there, i use bootxp and i love changing my boot screen i hate seeing MICROSOFT XP every time i boot my pc, so i change it and i thought if there were people out there that can make up these screens that there would be a demand for it!!!

Could the moderators conider puting boot screens on this site?

Mostly it became a non-issue because few people boot often enough to warrant the effort. It only shows for a few seconds. I dont see mine because thats when I'm making cappucino. Back when a pc had to be rebooted hourly it might have been more important.

With programs like BootXP and others, you can take any wallpaper and convert it to a bootscreen. That being the case, there's not much reason or need for a specific bootscreen section.

Additionally as noted in the two rather long discussions linked to above, Stardock will not support or create a program that relies on cracking or replacing a proprietary MS file. And evidently one cannot create a bootscreen app without doing so. The dicussions also contain links to free and not free bootscreen apps, so anyone who wants to use them has their choice of bootscreen programs.

Yeah boot screen customizing might be popular, but I don't mess with it, just because I dont wanna accidentally do the wrong thing and have my machine hiccup because of a mistake..lol..But I have seen alot of really good ones over at themexp. Makes ya wonder how come MS doesn't make em fancier.....

Now the poll has reappeared concerning this type of "skin" or adding other sections. So far it seems bootscreens are winning, which I think is unfortunate. Why skin something you rarely see? Sure there are other sections on here that are of no use to me, but on XP you don't need to boot that often, and the screen doesn't show for long anyhow. Wouldn't it be more useful to have a section for something ppl use a lot?
It was mentioned that there is a logon section, so why not a bootscreen section. Well those are two different things. The logon may indeed be used often by someone, certainly far more than the bootscreen. The logon is seen everytime you switch users on a pc, not just with every boot.

My thoughts exactly...Trillian or Internet Explorer toolbar customization would be much more worthwhile.
