Is there a way to skin.....

Monday, September 29, 2003 by Racer_CustomZ | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

...the icons iconpackager wont?

Such as the network connections icons (not the folders, thats skinned) or the icons in the control panel? (catagory view)

Im sure theres a way, as all icons can be changed around, but id hate to have to go into the windows folder to do so.

Open the IconPackager configuration window, click "icons and cursors" on the left of the window, you can then change individual icons. there are tabs along the top for the different sections.

I hope this helps.

As far as I know most of the ones in the Control Panel cannot be changed...

Somebody please prove me wrong...I would love to change those myself

Wish I could, but you're right. There are default Windows icons (must be the ones Bill Gates really likes )) that cannot be changed...those happen to be some of them...

I use Desktop Architect and a theme call XP and it changes ALL icons on my 9x platform to XP icons including network icons. As for control panel icons, sorry it will not change that. Maybe tweakXP can?

You'd have to use a resource hacker to change that actual icon within the control panel .CPL applet.

Or make a folder full of shortcuts to the control panel items and change the icon in the shortcut.

Both ways are very messy

Nope...Can't change 'em with Resource Hacker either...If you can do it or know someone that has...I would have to see it to believe it

Didn't say it'd be easy with a resource hacker

You probably need a binary editor too - now that's hacking.

I guess you could try to use it for XP put the big problem is finding where to download it.

That took about 5 seconds on Google

Doesn't say anything about support for XP

I might add that the program is no longer being developed to my knowledge. Skins have been hard to find but I love DA.
