DesktopX Replaces Standard Program Icons

Wednesday, September 24, 2003 by MichaelG | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I have noticed that on some of the programs I have on my desktop are being replaced by the standard system icon or the default Windows Icon when I run DesktopX. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? Thanks for any and everyones answers...

As far as I know it is enabled. I am using the latest beta version of DesktopX and the icons that it is replacing are the icons used by Jasc PaintShopPro v.8 and Jasc PhotoAlbum v.4. DesktopX is replacing them with generic 'batch file' icons.

How is it whacked? Seems to actually be fixed for me now, crashed DesktopX every time I tried to access it in the last DesktopX build...

I haven't had any problems with Icons on my desktop using IconX, of course I only have 2. I abhor having them where they aren't accessible.

TO all who wrote on my original question. I have resolved the issue. IT seems if you let certain programs install a shortcut when they install, they install a 'ghost' shortcut. The actual icon isn't an icon at all but just an image that doesn't register with DesktopX. By removing these 'pseudo' shortcuts and replacing them with real shortcuts from the actual executable, the issue of the generic icons disappears. Thanks again for everyone's input....
