In the control panel, go to "regional and language options". On the first tab, click on customize. Then click on the "time" tab.

What do you mean by the "shorter start panel"?

I think you have to change that yourself with SkinStudio

Right-clisk on your taskbar at the bottem of your screen and hit properties. Go into the start menu tab at the top of the window that appears. Down at the bottem of this panel there should be two radio buttons. If you are using the default XP start menu, hit the customize button beside it. Another box should show up. In this there is an area marked "programs" with a number box beside it. The lower the number the less previosly used programs show up in the start menu. I have mine set to five and it is under half of my screen tall. Try this and see if it solves your problem.

crissy14, look at Frogboys Minimalistic blue xp windowblinds theme this also comes up in themes that Snidely creates, or ports like b0se DMX , he includes the smaller start panel, this is what i am looking for, but with no windowblind skin applied. Sorry for not fully explaining

That is not a short start panel, it is a narrow start panel, and that is only achieved by downloading a WB skin that has that "compact" start menu. It is possible to "edit" a WB skin in skin studio, but you may need to change a handful of other features also to accomadate the change. Also, I think you need to have WB version 4 to be able to use this feature. Does that help?
