I just came across this one. My gawd.. what are they trying to force people into now.
It's crap like this that could induce that "civil war"..lol

A virus fouls your computer and you haplessly pass it on. Advertising software loads stealthily on your machine. Your password gets stolen because of your neglect. Or the music industry sues you because of something your kids or grandkids did on your computer.
Barely a day goes by without someone, somewhere getting stung or stinging others through careless Internet use.
Though many of these threats are preventable, relatively few of us take the necessary precautions.
So why not institute mandatory education before people can go online? After all, motorists must obtain licenses before they can legally hit the road, and computers are much more complicated.
"It could be a four-year college degree, a one-month course. It might be a good idea," said Bruce Schneier, chief technology officer for Counterpane Internet Security Inc.

I vote for a license to get a computer. At least that makes more sence than a license to get on-line.

I disagree,a person who dosnt go online cant cause ME problems because they cant manage a PC.Lots of work out there helping people who cant use a PC well,I suggest being nice tho and not gouging them,they're having a miserable enough time already.

In the military we have to pass a test on security features and what to do or not do when using computers before we get an account on our local LAN wherever we are. Simple common sense stuff like scanning floppies before using, not giving out passwords, locking workstations when away from the computer, opening attachments, what information to discuss or or not unclassified, confidential, what sites not to visit, etc...but still even in here we see some people pass a virus gets around, locked up computers, help desk phone calls for simple how to's, etc. And that's for everyday computers, not secure transmissions.

You do not have to have training and certification to have and raise children but people want you to have it to own a computer?

Oh....having children 'SHOULD' have a dope-test.....and stop the damn 'dopes' from breeding......ultimately that'll solve the computer/net idiot problem as well.....perfect...
