TaskBar on the top

Sunday, August 24, 2003 by raphael_boneli | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Someway windows don´t like mee too much...

I love too use my taskbar on the top of my desktop... somewhat like MacOS... but windows keeps doing strange things...

First one... some explorer windows opens with the top of the windows under the taskbar... i know i can get it back (using "move", and then moving it with the arrow keys). But, danm, it´s anoying.

Second (and worst)... some maximized apps... Corel and Photoshop... just got 'fullscreen' every time i "alt+tab" from it and back again... the top of the window (the bar with the name on it) just got under the taskbat... i have to "restore" and then "maximize" it again every time...

Anyone knows how to solve those problems??
Thanks.

Go to start, right click the taskbar, click properties. Somewhere in there should be a option for KEEP TASKBAR ON TOP

try that maybe it will help

Thanks for trying guys... but my bar is always on top... that´s the problem... the top of the window gets under the bar... than i have to shrink the window to close or to maximize again to get back.

I see what you're saying (I think). I used to have the same problems when I have my taskbar at the top of my screen. If a window opens and it's higher then the taskbar, I have to hit Alt+Space+M to move it below the bar. The only fix I found for that was setting my Work Area in DesktopX. You also have the same features in WindowFX. If you aren't using any of those programs, try a google search or go to download.com, see if they got something that can set your Window Maximize size or something to that effect. There also might be a registry setting for that, I'm not sure on that though...

You have your taskbar at the top of your screen right? You always have your taskbar ontop of all windows right?

When you open a window the top of that window opens up under the taskbar?

If that is the case then go into your settings and change a setting to remember the last position of the window before closing. Make sure you maximize any window you want maximized and then close it and you shouldn't have the problem. Some windowblinds have bigger borders and will enlarge or shrink the size of the window if you don't have a maximized window.

I have my Taskbar at the top of the screen. Windows cover it often, but they're always on top of the Taskbar........ If you've unchecked "Keep taskbar on top of other windows" in your taskbar properties, maybe you need to reboot, before Windows gets the message.

I have that problem with Photoshop just using Windowblinds.  Sometimes images in Photoshop open with their title bar UNDER Photoshop's toolbar. Very annoying. Extremely so. Can't move it, can't grab it. Can't do anything with it. I can only open a new image and hope it opens in an accessible area. That's why I have Photoshop setup in my exclusion list.

Annoying problem since the very first Win95 days... There was a little Shareware-prog that used to solve this, but I have lost it and forgot the name...

Found it : Shove-It! http://www.phord.com/shoveit.html is quite old, but works under XP also. Has some problems with DX, though and is too expensive for what it does.

It's functionality would be a great enhancement to WindowFX.

You can install it nevertheless. Just ignore the error. Have the same file here.
