Tweaking question...

Thursday, August 14, 2003 by GreatSilverWyrm | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

In XP, as you know, there is an "other places" area on the left side of file windows....I was wondering if anyone had any idea of how to add something there. Like, add a link to "My Pictures" or the Fonts folder, ect.

Also, is there a way to add items to the right side of your start menu?

Have you tried right clicking on your start menu, properties, start menu tab, customize? You can also mess around with your task bar settings and stuff like that. That's with basic XP. I haven't tried to do much with my start menu so I don't know what else to tell you on how to edit it.

Yes I have done the start menu properties bit...
I was more looking for help with the "other places" bit of my question more than the start menu, but thanks anyway for your help.

It's called the "places bar" under the explorer section in Tweak UI.

I can't figure out why my links don't make a clickable hyperlink... try it again with some html around it...

Oh..also...
That only changes things when you're like downloading something or opening something ect..
is there any way to change it when you're just like browsing in explorer?

When you're browsing in explorer you should have a list of all the folders on the left... you're entire system including every drive. In "My Computer" there's the XP drop down stuff on the left and one is called "other places". Is that what you mean?

I think that would be a reg hack if it's possible, I don't know if it can be changed.

You could try this: http://www.creativelement.com/powertools/ Creative Element Power Tools

I'm not sure if would do that but it does a lot of cool stuff. I got it for a couple features but I waited too long after installing it and it timed out before I went to try it out. It costs $18 to register it.

I don't see "other places" in mine, just "My Network Places". I find it odd if there is a thing called other places as that seems so nondescript. just my two cents.
