Question about # or Ratings in the ratings

Friday, August 8, 2003 by Weaksid | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

My question is - Does the moderator's rating count as the first # of ratings?

Depending on the answer I will explain on why I asked this.

I would dare to guess, whom ever first rates a skin sets the mean tide mark for the rating bar, it adjusts by averaging the number of users rating the skin and the levels it is rated at I am assuming. Though there might be other factors in the equation applied also.

AFAIK, IPlural is rigth except the moderator's rating counts only until someone else rates the skin, then it is replaced with the new rating.

Actually, it depends. If it's the automatic ratting given by the site to all the Journeymen+ that bypass moderation, then yes it's removed as soon as a person gives it a real ratting.  But when a real admin (or moderator) rates a skin, it's permanent, as anybody else's.

The reason why I ask is because I was looking at alot of the new wallpapers and they were rated by 1 person and the rating was very low. Like somebody just went through and rated every one low. There might of been one or two that were decent but I saw alot of low ratings. It just bothered me a little

Weaksid: yes, a lot of the recent walls have been rated a 2 or 3 upon their approval. In the past, we would have just rejected these walls; now we let them through but with a low rating.  We pretty much never used to give a low rating on wallpapers before, based on the assumption that if they were good enough to go through moderation, then they at least deserve a 6 or more. Well now it's different. :/

O', probably if people get a low enough rating after everybody rate them and check them out. They might take it off. My one big concern was that one that looked like a photo. Are photo's allowed to be in the wallpaper area? I was just curious.

Weaksid....regarding photos, the most important issue is that they be original to the uploader...in other words not someone else's photo...then if they work OK as a wall then fine...
