Monitors: Is it just me or do they die too easily?

My monitor just died, and it was a beautiful one. Now I'm stuck with this flimsy thing that has too many problems to let me be content. Hopefully, I'll buy another one soon, but before I do, I'd like to know something from the common man...
Is it normal for CRT monitors to just die after 1 1/2 to 2 years, or am I just unlucky or very abusive with my monitors?

My last monitor served loyal for about 5 yrs, but became ill after a thunder storm, I had to take it out back and put it out of it's missery 
I guess the life of a monitor depends on a few things, such as;
Brand/make
Price [most likely a $400 monitor will last longer than a $80 one]
How often it's been used.
Maintenance.
and a well balanced diet

could be cleaning it out might help some....
your vacum have a blower feature so you can blow the dust loose and suck it out of the vents?

I have only owned 2 computers, the first came with a three year no quibble monitor guarantee, and I had the monitor replaced 3 times in the first 3 years. The monitors didn't actually fail completely, rather they just began acting oddly, and they replaced them promptly each time without question. My latest sytem is only about 9-10 months old, it's a Dell sytem with a large CRT Monitor, and so far no problems. I guess my point is.....make sure you get a good warranty with your monitor.

what about laptop monitors? this one is 10 years old, a TFT LCD, and no pixels are messin up yet!
