Monitor distortion

Last week I finally got the 22" monitor I've been wanting for years. It's an NEC-Mitsubishi Diamondtron 2070SB, and when I first fired the computer up I was extremely impressed with the sharpness and brightness of the screen. However, after playing with it for a while I've noticed a couple of imperfections which really bug me, and I'm not sure whether I have a faulty monitor or whether they're faults which are common to all monitors of this model.
At the very top of the picture, there's a strip about half an inch deep which is slightly overly-stretched vertically. None of the vertical distortion controls affect that area of the screen, and when a window is maximised it's really noticeable. It's not a matter of the picture distorting because it's too close to the edge of the screen either, as resizing the picture vertically doesn't have any effect on the problem.
Similarly, there's a strip about an inch wide down the right hand side of the screen which is squashed slightly horizontally. There are no controls for horizontal distortion on the monitor, so I can't even try to fix that. Again, when a window is maximised this is quite noticeable as the titlebar buttons are narrower than they are when a window is toward the center of the screen.
Does anyone else have this monitor and can confirm that this isn't a usual problem? I'm not looking forward to the prospect of trying to get a replacement...

grayhaze I had a monitor which was narrower at the end and bigger in the center like yours.
The problem was worst in high resolutions like 1280x1024 so I lowered it to 1024x768 if was less noticeable then.
Updated your drivers for your monitor and graphics card.
Then try putting your grahics card in again or replacing it with another for testing.

Thats why personaly love plasma screens so much, too bad they arent there for pc's

I'm having the same problem with my new monitor,except it has a gentle vertical sag.Not serious but noticeable.Thats the only thing there is no adjustment for!Hadnt thought about updating drivers because I assumed it was a monitor issue but maybe it would help.will let you know what I find out.

Well I've tried just about every version of the Radeon Catalyst drivers I have at hand, and there's the same problem with all of them. If I had to make a guess, I'd say it's probably something misaligned in the monitor, as reducing the screen area maintains the same visual distortions. If I don't have any luck by Monday, it's going to have to go back... along with my new SerialATA hard drive which has been causing problems too! Fun, fun, fun...

I just bought a 19" flat screen crt with exactly the same problem

I already use PowerStrip yrag, but thanks anyway.
It doesn't actually provide any additional options for modifying the picture beyond the refresh rate and those controls available on the monitor though. I really hoped someone else here might have the same monitor, but it looks like I'm out of luck.

GH, A friend of mine bought a 21" a while ago, lovely thing btw 
, but it was REALLY unsharp, like someone blurred the screen, so he bought a new video card, (think it was a g-force 4 or something) and that fixed the problem...

Well I've only recently bought my Radeon 9700 Pro, so I'm not about to spend out on a slower card just in case.

I would think that would handle a large monitor just fine.Maybe thats my prob,I'm on an old 128 rage allin wonder.
