Oh...forgot......Park tools are also something 'good' to come from the US in bike terms...

Hey guys since yall are bikers, I was wondering if anyone hurt themeslves in the groun area?
I was trying to work for a bike messenger service and my stint as a package deliverer was halted by an very painful event.
Ouch!
I went to the doctor and I have to go back sometime this week. Has anyone hurt themselves (not to be nasty) such that their urine come out redish?
(Embarrassing but wanted to know and I felt I could ask here)

Joe....no....that sounds like a painful experience....the wiser cyclist avoids such injuries...chamois nicks certainly helps in the 'protection' area....

Joe - not me either. I wear bicycling shorts that protect "that area" while i ride.
Funny though... my friend got a speeding ticket doing 57 mph on a 10 speed in a 55 mph zone.

Jumping a car on my Redline BMX bike years ago and my seat twisted in the clamp and I ended up straddling the bar and bruised my uretha(spelling).
The second time was on a motorcycle MX250 the one before the YZ's came out. It was tricked out as a factory Racer for Barneys Yamaha and my brother and I grew up with the owners grand kids so I got it for a steal, Mike was also being scouted pretty hard by them to ride for the, anyway, I was always a lot smaller than the bikes I rode and ended up riding on the tank pretty muck. I hit a mud/much pit coming around a blind turn and put a ball dent in the metal tank on my way over the handle bars when the front tire was grabbed and stuck.
Had a huge brusing issue and a tear in my Uretha which was the cause of the blood soaking my jeans by the time I got to my feet.
Wized red for about one week solid and another week off and on...
not fun
I know it is scary (was for me) to find blood where blood ain't supposed to be, best friends and all that such as they are
I hope everything works out and the pain diminishes fast for you Joe !!!
Just listen to the doctor and there is not any shame in wrapping the bar with a pad, especially if your going to be in traffic and on city streets/sidewalks...

but it has disc brake tabs and I just happen to have a set of disc brakes and disc brake rims laying around the house.

Yeah my Fisher has the tabs, but it will be a while before I am biking again

you want a set of discs for your sugar? I might have some for you but not for free of course. but cheap.
I just test rode the Giant rainier out in the ice and snow. Got to love Nokian tires, awesome grip!

Iplural I thought you had a sugar already, sorry. what do you have then?
I can get you a set of shimano deore disc hubs laced to sun ryhno lite rims for 78 to 90 bucks, disc set about the same price.
But if you want the pain in the neck avids, I can get you set up for 200 bucks.
You probably will need a special adapter for the rear as every gary fisher bike I have fixed needs one for disc brakes.

I read a report on these not to long ago in one of my bike mags. i am not impressed with the front or rear ends.
A kona would be a better choice for a bike, and a fox shox would be a better choice for a front shock.
The rear suspension design on that bike IP is outdated by at least 10 years.

thought I would resurrect this thread. I've been riding a Giant these days. Looks like the picture except I have disc brakes.

My 'dud' Headset is a Chris King....so you see why I'm not thrilled about Aheadsets....they are an American invention stemming from the Mountain Bike fraternity....and are about as good as those stupid [American] one-piece cranksets found on junk bikes.
There was a time in the 80's and 90's in particular when 'new must be better than old' and silly ideas were thought up to grab the public dollar....when traditional technology had been proven for generations of refinement....suddenly we see product recalls with carbon fibre steerers ungluing themselves from forks [Cannondale, I believe] and all sorts of dramas.
Generally, the only 'good thing' to come from the US in bike terms was/is Lance Armstrong.
The only 'good thing' to come from Mountain bikes was/is the third chainring and bar-ends. [remember....suspension did NOT come from Mountain bikes, nor did disk brakes or hydraulics].
The Aheadset is not a particularly noble engineering solution....
