Buying a Mac is not easy. You have to be rich or settle for a used or refurbished unit

Object dock makes your comp look slightly Macish.. (it is a rip off mac's menu right? i could be wrong tho). A mac would be kool to buy, except that fact that you can't really buy hardware from stores (other then the keyboard, speakers, and mouse. I could be wrong about that tho.. im just going by what Tech TV said.

tech tv dosen't know how to to do anything. IMO they suck.

You can buy other harware for a mac but Apple discourages it.

I like Chris Pirillo and Leo Laporte to name a couple of people from Tech TV that I believe know what they are talking about.

...they also know Windows better than they know Linux. Usually I have seen them have a guest that is a Mac expert when they talk about Macs and a Linux expert on when they talk about Linux.

At my school there are 962 computer's for 467 people!!!
9 in each class
15 in the library
1 laptop per teacher
1 laptop per student
9 outside computers
14 computers to manage notices
and more

so I guess that my private school is rich by what your saying.

I really don't think Macs are expensive. Sure, they're a heck of a lot more expensive than 'build your own' type boxes but then so are quality systems from Sony, IBM, etc... iMac G4s, eMac's and iBook are all very low priced for their value, imo.

Otoh, there's nothing wrong with a used or refurb, either... especially if you just want to get your feet wet and see if you like it. Since Macs have great resale value you can usually make back a good chunk of your expense if you don't like it.

When I got my first Power Mac, purchased brand new, top of the line, for $3000 back in march of 2001 I kind of broke the bank to get it despite the fact I didn't need 'top of the line' power. Last fall, 18 months later, I sold it for close to $1500 and purchased a used (2001 model) Power Mac G4 Cube 500 that still has an Apple warranty until next Summer AND a really nice glass/bronze wrap-around desk.

I've bought several used Macs over the last two years and I'm not even close to being rich. I've got 6 right now. I had 4 others and resold them for more than what I originally paid.

bliss980...at my school there were none....and probably a dozen computers in the entire country, and not even a calculator in any school, or anywhere else for that matter....

To quote Chris: Back in my day I had to swim through the primordal amonia sea as a single-celled organisim to get to school.
