Roadrunner cable...

We've recently moved (Im back!) and are getting set up with Time warner's roadrunner cable... Since its gonna either be that or dial up, (And Im NOT going back to dial-up...) I dont have much of a choice. I AM, however, curious about the specs...Ppl tell my it had blazing fast download speeds...but sluggish upload speeds... Anyone here have any input/use Roadrunner? And what can I expect (on average) to be the up/download speeds?

I can't give you exact numbers since I'm on the road and won't be home till week after next but.... I have had Roadrunner for almost 2 years now and I love it. I have found that the download speed is more based on the server that I'm getting content from than on Roadrunners ability to transfer the information. As far as uploads go I have never noticed it to be sluggish, every-time I have uploaded something it has seemed just as quick as the download. Roadrunner has a couple of extra benefits, and my favorite is Roadrunner on the Road, which lets you have Dial up access darn near anywhere in the US for free (or at-least it was last time I used it) Hope this information helps, I can't wait to get home and get "Un-Used" to dial-up.

EventHorizon, I have had RoadRunner for 2 years now also. My experience with it has been wonderful. Very, very fast with downloads.Here for example, I click to DL a WB and pretty much only blink and it done. I have never noticed a problem with upload, they do take long by far then DL here but this is the only place I upload to so I have no comparison. I have heard that some areas are fast then others but I suppose that it typical with ant internet service. I usually hit 2003kbps download and 384 kbps upload on Western Ohio Roadrunner service. Been consistant for around the last 18 months or so. Not the fastest compared with other Roadrunner services, but it is more than adequate.

I run my box, my wife's box, my notebook, and ocaisionally a web server all on the same connection, and I don't notice any real drop in performance.

Also, my IP hasn't changed in the past 20 months, which is great for when I do have my server up and running.

dslreports.com is also a good place to go. That's where I do my speed tests.

I use Time warner's roadrunner and I love it, runs well and and never lags me down.. my uploads and downloads are always in the 1954/320...the lowest I have seen it was 789/231

Happy (with the exception of rising costs) RoadRunner customer since '99. I've never noticed any difference between upload and download speeds. Everything is always fast for me.

All I can say is: AOL owns time warner cable, so they get most of the internet money, pretty smart, huh? I have RR, when my family goes to the beach, we can use RR dialup for free. it's pretty good, something even faster would be T1, but those are for buisnesses so that they aren't really slow with a jillion people on at a time. best choice I could tell you to make, unless you don't want aol to get your money, in which case you should try some DSL at the same speed, but according to the old RR commercials, they aren'nt available evrywhere. stick with it! RRRules!!!!

Most of the Broadband test sites and a data base of different providers and wha area the user is from so you can see what kind of through put for that local area is like pretty much.

If DSL is an option, personally I would go with that I have a 1.5 mbit connection that is consistantly hitting 1.27 and up to 1.4 mbit on dowlads. Of course, speed isn't set in stone because you speeds are limited to the weakest (slowest) link in the chain between you and what your attempting to access...

We tried to get DSL first, but it turns its not avaliable...And like I said earlier, the only other option besides cable is Dialup...(Im running on a temporary dial-up connection now) Dang that sounds fast... 2000+ kb/sec...our old DSL had about 560 kb/sec download and about 340 kb/sec upload. I dunno what Ill do with all that bandwidth...

1771/down, 323/up using Keila's speed test link. I'm on the east coast and the test I took is from a server in Los Angeles, Ca.I'm going to find out how to get the east coast test (something about using tool points). Whatever it is, I'm extremely happy with Roadrunner and have been for over 2 years. I'm a former AOL user and I don't want to tell you all what I think of it 'cause you're liable to exile me.

I have had Roadrunner for 3 years and Object Desktop for one year and never had any problems. The downloads are super fast. I would not give up either one for anything. I love them both.
