I just bought me a Dell Laptop. One of the old Pentium 166 mhz with windows 98 models. But The seller included a docking station and more memory and a working battery. It is a Lattitude. I love the little thing!

Really? It seems that all a negative attitude does is call attention to you. So, in a sense, you must be annoying yourself, right? If you didn't want attention you wouldn't keep coming back here and posting.
The fact is, every time someone posts a message on any message board, they are seeking attention. What would be the point if we posted something without wanting a response?
So what if someone is happy that they got something new. You don't have to read the thread. Simply go on to the next thread.

I just got a new toy myself. I got a Gameboy Player for my Nintendo Gamecube. Finally I can fully appreciate the graphics on my GBA games without looking at one of those tiny LCD screens trying to find the right lighting.

kona - i'm glad to see a good piece of equipment put to good use. our society seems to want to throw away any piece of technology the instant a newer version shows up on the shelf.

i don't consider myself a attention seeker. I in fact was trying to ask if the stardock products working on my machine. by all means if i made you mad I am sorry. I admit i handled it wrong. BTW this isn't the first "new toy" thread I hjave seen since I have been on WC.
I admit i should have not said what i did. sorry everyone.

I would venture out, take a guess and make the assumption that it would probably depend on which troll category the negative attention seeker falls into.
I am not an expert in the field of troll classification but perhaps a rhetorical troll exists?
Much in the same vein of a defense attorney saying something inadmissible, the objection arises, the inadmissible statement gets stricken, but the jury heard it.

Kona: Install windows first. I recommend three partitions. Make a C partion and a D partion and leave unformatted space for installing lLinux. You can install windows on C and reserve D has a partiton for data storage that can be accessed by both Windows and Linux. Mandrake has an easy installer that might be a bit confusing at first. Format a swap partion and a partiton for Mandrake in the unformated hard drive space in the Mandrake installer. Use the Journalized ext3 format for Mandrake. Mandrake will recognize your C and D partion as win_c and win_d. win_d should be in fat32 so that Mandrake can both read from and write to it. If after installing Mandrake you find you have no software even though you did select software packages during installation, just go through the installation procedure again. I have had this happen to me, but for some strange reason go through the same steps over again gives me better results. Windows will not be able to see the partition you have Mandrake installed on so any files you save in Mandrake that you want to view in Windows will need to be copied to win_d or partition D.

Mandrake's installer includes a partitioning tool. During the installation process, you you will come accross a menu that gives you several installation options including reformating the hard drive and installing Mandrake. Select custom partioning. You will then be taken to a nice GUI partioning tool that shows you what partitions you have on your hard drive. You can resize, delete, and create partitons here.
If after you have had time to fully evaluate Mandrake, you find you really do like it a lot, I urge you to support Mandrake by either purchasing a boxed copy from them or send them a payment to join Mandrake Club. The membership fee also goes towards the cost of mantaining the Mandrake project.
Mandrake's site should have plenty of documentation that you can refer to for help http://www.mandrake.com/

Congrats on the new machine!!! It sounds cool. My 17" monitor fried yesterday and I now have a nice 19" flat screen running at a higher res than my 17" and the difference is amazing. New stuff is so much fun

Use MS fdisk partition to create the Windows partitons. Be sure to leave unformatted hard drive space since you will need Mandrake's formatter to create a swap partion and a Journalized Ext3 partition for Mandrake.
For example lets say your drive is 60 gigs and you want 3 partitions: 25 gigs for Windows, 25 gigs for Linux, and 10 gigs for data storage. Then do these steps:
1. Use fdisk and create partition C and D with C being 25 gigs and D being 10 gigs.
2. Install Windows on C.
3. Boot up the Mandrake installer and in the remaining disk space create a swap partiton at 800 MB or whatever the minimum size for swap is. Then create a Journalized Ext3 partion with the remaining hard drive space and mount it as your root partition. C and D will be recognized and win_c and win_d. Your Linux partition will not be assigned a letter by Windows since Windows will not be able to see it.
