Can everyone with my [email protected] address in their address book please make sure they run a virus scan to disinfect their system. I've received a couple which fake their from address as MadIce's e-mail address, so it would suggest that it's coming from someone with both of our addresses in their book.

Also, I open only those that I know are coming, and scan any with attachments.
This saves me a lot of grief.
And I do run quality Anti- Virus/Trojan software.
First line of defense is yourself, do not open Email with attachments unless you are absolutely certain you know who and where it came from. Even then, be alert and suspcious.

I used to have incoming virii when I used my old e-mail address that supposedly came from other Stardock personel. And they received mail just like that. Upon closer examination they came from other sources instead. On this new machine I am using a new e-mail address and for about half a year I have no incoming virii anymore.
MadIce knocks on wood.
I use an up to date virus scanner and we are testing a new spam killer too. So far, so good.

New variant of W32.Sobig worm W32.Sobig.D and W32.Sobig.E have been
spreading at an alarming rate. Like the earlier version these new
variants do mass mailing and attempts to email itself to all the
email address found in your system.
The infected email comes with following details:
SUBJECT:
Re: Application
or
Re: Movie
BODY:
Please see the attached zip file for details.
ATTACHMENT:
your_details.zip
On execution it spreads on local drive as well as in network shared folders.
If you receive any email with about subject or attachment then just
DO NOT OPEN OR EXECUTE THE ATTACHMENT.
Delete those mails!
The biggest contributor to the alarming spread of this and other virii are those who refuse to update their systems, or run proper software, or allow themselves to be suckered into opening the stupid attachments in the first place. >

I have gone so far as to request that those people who plan to send me email attatchments, send an advance email notice stating the file name and what it's for. It has worked well for me , so far. The few attachments I have recieved without advance notice were deleted immediately, and a note sent to the sender requesting , if the file was intended to be sent, could they please first send me a warning email, and then resend the file.included in the note is a brief warning that "if this file was not sent on purpose you might want to run an indepth virus scan prior to signing online again." this works great, and the ones who recieved the message who hadn't sent me a file were alerted.
I've made the email a draft, so I can reuse it anytime I need to without having to re type everything.

The best defense is to keep an up-to-date virus checker on your machine and be careful about opening attachments. Chances are if any of your friends send you an attachment on purpose they'll add a little more to the message body text itself than what little the viruses add.
