Because you're probably smarter than some of the people who have graduated from some of those schools.   

Elite colleges are not necessarily the best schools to go to.... education-wise,  For many of the rich, elite colleges for their kids are status symbols, where the kids just can just bum around until they graduate with bogus degrees that they didn't really earn. 

They don't have to work at it because they know the name of the college on that bit of paper at the end will open pleaty of doors.... while those kids who worked hard at non-elite schools often get overlooked.  I worked with a bloke who attended a high profile college in Brisbane, yet he was as dumb as all fech and knew very little about anything.  I could do his job better than he could, yet he was getting the big bucks because of his so-called schooling.

It's because anyone with money can buy whatever they want. But, in cases like this, only because the greedy let them.

Not sure if this is funny or just sad - the NY Post is reporting that the older daughter of Lori Laughlin posted on Instagram that she wasn't really interested in attending classes at USC, but she really wanted to experience the party scene. So her mom might be going to jail to get her into a college she wasn't interested in and probably won't put in the effort to graduate from.

And that's what should happen... jail time for people who use their wealth to gain positions at high profile schools, particularly when those positions could and should have gone to more deserving students.

As for the party scene and not attending classes, I personally think the universities and colleges need to put their foot down and stamp out the 'Animal House' mentality that detracts severely from higher learning and productivity.  Yeah, Animal House was a funny movie, but parents don't send their kids to college to behave like drunken louts.  If a kid of mine behaved like that at college and learning wasn't the priority, I'd instantly pull the funding and make he or she go get a job.

Wealth and privilege seems to be a popular mindset among the so called elite. I wonder how many of them will buy their way out of jail.

I hardly ever would reply back to a post like this but making an exception here. So you are saying rich people should buy whatever they want. I don't disagree with that. That is what goes on now with all the special rich movie stars and alike. They don't give a damn about anyone except their-self. 

Having all the money they would ever need doesn't give anyone the right to purchase or pay for things that are Illegal. These people if or when caught should rot in jail. 

It's good this problem is getting exposure but sadly I don't think anything will change. The wealthy always seem to get whatever they want. Look at Jared Kushner. Jared was a mediocre student in High School at best but Daddy donated 2.5 million to Harvard and lo and behold Jared went to Harvard. It's not just Hollywood people doing this. It's anybody with money. Money always has talked and people listen to money. It's plain and simple.

And then you got in the wrong queue at distribution.... and now you can't thumb your nose at anyone.

And you're so old you mistook the Big Bang for a knock at the door.  Then you hightailed it out the back door just in case it was the cops.

And you're so old you forgot that you were the one that lit the fuse that made all this stuff happen. If it weren't for us old heads the sale on .edu would still be a sale instead of a giveaway. 

A degree means nothing at the end of the day, because essentially it's just a piece of paper.  Knowledge most certainly is more important, and if that knowledge accompanies that piece of paper then all well and good.  Far too often, however, that piece of paper is solitary and lacks the credentials/ kinowledge that should go with it.

The smartest man I ever met left school when he was eight to help support his family.  He never returned to school and never attended university, yet he has all the business smarts anyone could ever need.  He started his own business with one truck and expanded it with additional trucks and drivers until he'd created Linfox, one of the largest transport companies in Australia, perhaps even the world as he also has overseas interests now as well.

What's more, he's a great bloke to work for... not stuck up, like some university types who think they're better than we peons.

You can say that but in the U.S. the better jobs go to people with degrees. That's a fact.

When the whole system is geared to people who are well to do then we will never get a fair system.

The college system in the U.S. is more or less a business. Like health care in the U.S. going to college costs way more than in other developed countries. When profits are the goal than people get less but end up paying more.

Add the fact that we have a unqualified billionaire in charge of the education system in this country.

Of just about every branch of government these days. You don't need a degree or experience. All you need is big bucks and the right stooge to give them to.
