What is the hardest part of Windowblinds to skin?

Tuesday, June 3, 2003 by joetheblow | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

For me, the hardest part to come up with a matching working part for the skin is the title bar buttons. I have such a hard time figuring out what they will look like and if they really go with the skin style.

The second thing would be the scroll bars. They always look funny to me or I have great scrol bars that don't match the skin

I end up making a new skin to match the scroll bars.

Every thing else about WB seems to go well as far as coming up with a look and continuos style.

For me it is always an adventure The hardest part is the black textfonts you can't change. You have to adjust the background to make it readable and from there you end up with colours you don't want.... > And then you change it back to the old bg and you have that darn black non changeable font again
The nice thing is the adventure, going step by step and seeing the skin coming together...

And another 'hard part' the user picture, just can't scale it into a selection...

That's because almost every skinner acounts for a 50x50 usericon(I'm guess you did that). In reality it should be 48x48.

#15 by m0rphium - 6/3/2003 11:53:17 PM Did you know that horizontal scrollbar buttons are the same as horizontal spin buttons ? Just draw scrollbar buttons, copy/paste them as spin buttons. But without the scrollbar bolts > < ^ etc. For spin buttons you should use glyph image because when the spin buttons are stretched (as in skinstudio), they look odd.

I have no idea what your talkin' about...

spin what itz? take out who?

anyway, so what size should the user icon be anyway? And how come I can't figure out a way to change the colour or the mouse over for the start panel in XP??

User images should always be assumed to be 48x48 pixels. If you have any trouble with positioning on the user pane, I suggest you take a look at my 'metalX' skin. Somehow I managed to find a good balance there.

Scrollbars and logoff buttons are hard. Titlebar buttons arent. (IMHO)

I completly LOVE the xp panels!!!!

And the dialog background is pretty neat too. and explorer background too.

Hate the mouse over on the more programs... I can never seem to get the color I want there.

I am missing something in that part.

He-he...I almost started a thread like this only it was gonna be "What is your favorite part of WB to skin?"

Hmm. I think it's all a 'challenge' for me (I'm still so new to it all, after ALL) but I have to say I'm always the most LEAST happy with my scrollbar shaft and buttons...they always seem to fall short of my vision and it's always a challenge to try and add enough detail to something that you can tile properly and not have it look like a visual mess...and so on and so on...

My favorite things to do are the start-panel images because I don't have to worry about tiling as much and can have a little more freedom...so I always save that for last cuz that's my baby. hehe

Hmm. Freedom & WINDOWS?

I do believe that is motion's post up there. I just noticed it.

I guess I am a little behind in my reading.

Setting all the colors is the biggest pain in the rear to me. Too many colors to set and trying to decide what goes with the skin but isn't too butt ugly is by far my least liked part of skinning.

Scrollbars are one of my favorite parts unlike most everyone else here.
