I need some help with shellstyles.

Tuesday, June 3, 2003 by Apocalypse_67 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

When I apply a skin to my system, and I open the folders My Music, My Pictures and My Videos, it shows the skined shells on the left but it does not show the image on the bottom right of the window.
Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this?

Thankx for any help.

Is this with a skin you're making or one you've downloaded? If the latter, which skin is it? The shell folder backgrounds need to be indexed color bitmaps to display properly.

This happens with all skins. The only shells that are shown are the ones on the left. eg ShellStyleSmallPicture, ShellStyleSmallFilm, ShellStyleSmallMusic, etc. But the other shells are not showing.

UGH, and double UGH evennnnnnnnnn...

I'm having the same prob too A_67...and the only skin so far that I've found this part of the shellstyles to work (even though I'm sure there are plenty others but I've just been testing out a few) and that is Mormegil's FauS-TOON skin. I'm sure it's something simple to fix (I HOPE ) but so far even after studying the image info in Mormegil's skin I STILL can't get mine to show up.

I'll probably figure it out as soon as I post this...sure...yeah...that's the ticket!

A_67, the large shellstyle images work for me in my HalfLife skin and also in the skin I'm working on now. They are saved in Indexed bmp (8 bit, I think).

I hate to throw a monkey wrench in the works, but I couldn't get my large shell backs working until I saved them as 24 bit..................

Shmoopy try decreasing to 256 color.Optimized Octree, Error Diffusion, Reduce Color Bleeding. All that last part is in the dialog that comes up when you reduce to 256

Koasati, this is very strange. My Verdant skin works and the images are RGB 8bits per channel but my Entropy skin does not and it's images are also RGB 8bits per channel. The Halflife is indexed 8bits per channel and it works.
Hmm, further investigation is in order

Ok this is the issue.
I have 2 computers, both are running XP Pro and both have WB4
On one PC everything works great, shells, buttons, etc
On my other PC I apply the skins, but only part of the shells are displayed. The large movie, picture, music and search shell are not displayed.
So Im wondering if there is something that neds to be activated or checked.?

To make it even more complicated, I had a very strange issue today : I imported the shellstyle of another skin to one that had none. I applied the skin and everything was fine. Then I made a shellbar bmp, applied it and still everything was good. So I wanted to change the buttons of the shellbar. The original ones where tga's and I changed them to custom made bmp's. In Skinstudio everything looked superb after applying them and reloading the skin. But : I was left with no shellstyles at all in explorer, just the standard folder/files list. Re-applied the tga's again and shellstyles were there. I found that rather strange. Ended up with pasting the new bmp's into the old tga's and now verything works like it should.

c242, have you disabled PerPixel after replacing TGAs with BMPs? I guess that may be the issue.
