windowblinds file size

Friday, May 30, 2003 by crissy14 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Whenever I upload a WB skin, the file size seems to always be more than double the file size uploaded by other people. Before I upload, I do clean the "junk" from the skin directory (like files I decided not to use, extra images etc). What am I doing wrong? Can anyone shed any lite on this for me?

Just had a look at your Slate Grey skin. The walls take up a lot of space, also the screenshot which didn't need to be there. But also you have a lot of grey bmp file saved as 16m colours which could have been saved at a lower colour depth or even grey scale. Include the walls as .jpg instead of .bmp. I'd say you could reduce the file size by two thirds at least.

hope that helps

After you Zip the file, change the WBA extension to a ZIP extension, open the zip file and see what you have.Remove what you don't need and change it back to a WBA.

Be sure to delete any .WB4 files and thumbs.db if they happen to be in your zip.

Thanks guys. But mike, what do you mean "remove any WB4 files"? Don't I need them in the skin?

you can safely delete .wb4 files (if you're not presently using the skin!!). They will regenerate when the skin is applied.
