What the??? Part deux…

Friday, May 23, 2003 by Angel_Wings | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Just teasing. Scared ya didn’t I? It seems everybody loves a good controversy! I, being none too innocent of those charges.

Hey this is a skinning site and what-da-ya know? I have a SERIOUS skinning question but first I’d just like to clear the air by saying…

My last thread was not a case for histrionics or emotional flatulence (okay, I eeked a few out and I’m a stinkin’ ordinary mortal but take a walk in my moccasins and you’ll see it ain’t easy being me sometimes), sure, yeah and yes I was notably upset but that was because I couldn’t understand what the heck was going on regarding the top downloads [admittedly I sounded a bit hysterical…forgive me? Ah well, don’t then! ] and all of the 'mystery' waffling around the subject didn't help either but T-man finally revealed how the tallies are being counted and at last it all makes logical (logic, imagine that?) sense to me which was all I really wanted was a reasonable explanation (and MadIce, to answer your question FINALLY, yes, I edited two of my messages because I was angry and it got aimed at you which wasn’t right of me to do no matter how inflamed I felt by some of your comments and also, thank you for the gracious comments you made on my skin).

Ick, glad THAT is out of the way.

NOW onto the topic at hand:

Firstly, I don’t like pointing out flaws in my own work (who does?) but I MUST and since I see this same flaw occurring ALL OF MY SKINS as well as in many of the latest skins (even some big name authors) I figure there’s got to be some sort of explanation or some way to resolve this…*sigh*

So, here’s the problem…I’ve noticed that my skins which all have custom made (in PSP) window frame tops and sides look absolutely off-kilter when windows within an app are minimized within that particular app (for example: Paintshop Pro & Skinstudio)…and not only that…the minimized window CLOSES rather than opens full view when clicking on the maximize from the minimize state…See visual example: http://www.darkseraphim.com/ds/skinz/example.jpg

I’ve been wracking my brain trying to figure out what is going wrong with mine as well as so many other skins from other authors and the only thing I’ve concluded thus far is that it has something to do with the odd-sized (pixel height) window frame top/sides… I’ve studied skins that don’t have this problem and they seem to stick to a fairly close formulaic pixel height (25 pixels)…for example Treetog’s Sage skin does not have this ‘flaw’ that mine and many others do.

Is it just a math thing? Any ideas on how to solve this riddle that’s been driving me bonkers?

Or does anyone even care?

P.S. A special note to Adni18…((((BIG HUG))))

I don't see what you mean about the window frames being off kilter, but the the maximize=close thing, I've had the problem in SkinStuio for a while, even without any skins applied.

Hm. There is part 2. Looks like I am being addressed.

1) I gave a good comment on that skin, because I think it is a good skin.
2) No matter how angry you are do not say the things you said to me in that post you deleted.
3) I cannot comprehend people that worry that much about their precious downloads.
4) I hate the melodrama behind this. There is now even a part 2.
5) The fact that you apologize does not mean I have to accept it.
6) Stop this nonsense and make us another fab skin. I love to see another one of you.

Sylva_cg76, you see this too then! Thank heavens I'm not alone. A few friends have seen the same thing too and I figured it had to do with SOMETHING but just WHAT has been driving me cwazy! The only thing I've deduced that seems fairly repetitive is that skins that DON'T have this problem are within a certain pixel height.

"Windoze" is probaby picky about such things...

My next skin will follow the height aforementioned and I'll see if that makes a dif.

Dark !

BTW for the record, I'm a lousy skinner...I may never be a 'good' one little lone a 'great' one and all I can do is try my best and put as much of my heart into it that I can. I Angel_Wings could vote for herself she'd give Summer Dreams a 5 and Lullaby a 7...and that's with obvious prejudice!

My initial post was to do with fairness and on first glance at the stats that only us NON-ADMINS can see, it looked patently unfair.. That is all. Nothing more. If I had 200 downloads on initial launch and was placed Nowhere on the WC TOP that would have been fine by me! But since I take 3 weeks+ to make one pathetic WB skin I have a lot more emotions invested in it than lets say someone who pumps out 3 a week. So if I see it doing well my natural human emotion is to feel a bit of jubilation and if it is suddenly tamped down by what I saw as ‘bad-numbers’ then I couldn’t help but react. KAY?

And btw, "Part deux' was a joke...this isn't part '2', I had a serious skinning question that as of YET nobody can give me an answer to.

And the cheese stands alone.

It only takes you three weeks to do a skin? dang!

Sometimes I'll work on an ultra simple design and finish it in about a week, but it usually takes months to finish a skin. (For instance, I had been working on futility since sometime around Christmas!)

Donna, you're hard work shows it too.

I'm never happy with anything I release but I just chalk it up to more learning experience.

-ANd I don't mean that I release something that is not finished to me...I just mean I'm never satisfied with my own work.

And I STILL wanna know how to fix this dang skinning sitch!

bordfryr123 - *smooch*

Silly! hehe

Well, this thread is a fine example of what happens when someone tries to make a legitimate thread with a legitimate skinning question...

=nada =nuttin' =zilch

So the answer must be one of the following:

A. Somebody KNOWS but they ain't talkin'
B. Nobody knows so they can't say nuttin'
C. Everybody knows that nobody really gives a rat's behind about any legit skinning questions on this 'skinning' site.

If you're talking about windows within windows minimizing to "classic" look, I've always seen that. I've gotten so used to it I didn't think it was a problem.

Shmoopy...the problem is your thread title has nothing to do with your question/problem....try a heading like 'problem with skinning of daughter windows in WB' or some such....

Jafo has a point. Sometimes when threads have a history of being tense people might avoid them. Already it has been stated numerous times by some oldtimers that they search for valid help threads, and avoid the rest because they are weary.

Me, I avoid them because you can already bounce a feather off my back I am so tense... It was only a whim that I opened this one. Then I had to save poor Brdfryr, so I posted.
