Support our artists...

Saturday, May 10, 2003 by Angel_Wings | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Firstly, I started out here as a wall artist. If you or a friend/cousin/bruzzin(hehe) have an account here please at least give a new artist a chance by:

A: Configuring your account so you see every skin rated at even the lowest (I have always kept mine at 1 so that I can see EVERY work).

B. Rate that artist! Good or bad your vote counts and an art piece that otherwise might sit and not get viewed WILL get viewed if you feel it worthy enogh to Vote it into the 'sacred7' range.

C. No matter what! Comments are good! Irritating, indifferent, disgusted, jovial, happy, satisfied, enraptured (hehe) you get the idea...

D.Be respectful of the artist you critique, and ask yourself, "Could I even do this? Are MY tastes so much better? Do I need to take time out of my day to point out something to someone about something that I have know knowledge of? And if a color doesn't suit my style must I bash the artist for it when it might perfectly match another person's tastes?

When all is said and done, this site is GREAT and only getting better but I just want to remind us folks who have legit accounts here to do our part!

Level 3: Object Desktop / Stardock customer / Elite User. These are users who have either purchased Object Desktop Network or some other Stardock product (Stardock is WinCustomize's sponsor), or has Apprentice access or higher due to contributing to the site in other forms (making skins, being an active contributor to the message boards, etc.). These users get all the benefits of a registered user plus the ability to rate skins and can download an unlimited amount of content.

If I have the privilege of rating skins shouldn't I have that option in *EDIT ACCOUNT*

hmmm maybe we should make that an option for level 3? seeing as how there's so many of us out here who would gladly put our rating to 0 or 1 to view all, we'd also have the added benefit of rating those skins as we see them? or is it possible that as a user level 3, I see everything anyway and it's just a matter of actually rating the skins?

ahahaa! I thought this was a thread to support the artists. Now, its seems to have changed to a thread for editing account preferences. I'm glad I saw this one though, I never went to that section and I happily changed a few things. I don't have that option either but, its not important.
I also believe it is important is to support the artist. Don't rate skins politically or just to be mean. I've seen both and that's not right. Many of those who grade skins badly, or make terribly negative comments, have never created a skin. I know, because I check these cruel negative comments and 80-90% of them have no skins here. They don't realize the time involved. I believe that if you don't like a skin, don't rate it just to be mean, and ruin it for everyone else. Also, how many people here are actually getting paid for contributing? I'm curious about that, because many people seem to think that skinners are getting paid by Stardock or Wincustomize. I know that I do it for the love of art.
I personally find myself having to defend the hard work of the artists. I find myself having to defend my country at times here. And, I don't like it. But, I guess this site is just like life, its a community of different people and people tend to bring all their personal problems and politics into all facets of life. I say, leave your politics and personal problems off the site. Relax and enjoy the art. I find this site a new wonderful way for artistic expression. It is sad it is being degraded at times. Yes, SUPPORT THE ARTISTS!!! Good thread Shmoopy
