I thought I would like living there, and then I started to wonder what it would be like to live without windows. Do you think there are decorating tricks that can psychologically replace them?

ugh! I am not a nature person... I would much rather live in a modern house just outside of the city

http://www.trompe-l-oeil-art.com/ It is pretty nice... but wouldn't your mind be searching for movement after a time? Maybe make the windows a screen and the paintings like a gif. And lights could simulate natural lighting changes... hotels can do that, I know. They can cause the lighting to brighten and dim like dawn and dusk.

This does indeed seem pretty cool.

As a bonus... it is in a beautiful spot. I started wondering who might have built something like that.... I know a lot of Hollywood people have property there. Ted Turner for one. I would live in a tiny cabin to live there. Ski in the winter, hot-air balloon, hang glide, hike, white water rafting in the summer.

Trompe l'oeil murals can be very realistic. They can be painted directly on the wall or painted on stretch canvas. You can put dimmers and special lighting to create certain moods!!
I have made 3D windows with a contour of real mouldings, real shutters on each side and a flower box. On the inside of the window I painted a window mural of a country scene.I do a lot of that kind of work!!
It would be nice though to have a couple of real windows too!!!

So much of physical comfort is psychology. I was even thinking one could build fake windows with curtains and such...

***sigh***

Truth be told, I would go there in a microsecond. It is in such a location, that scant time might be spent inside. Imagine, middle of the winter, blizzard, 4 foot snow drifts, and cozied in a place like that! I am nearly homesick for it....

It is in a Quaking Aspen grove. Smells so good, when the wind comes through it is like a big nature sigh, and the fall colors are breathtaking! The wood burns fragrant, you can hollow out a goodly branch, burn a candle in there....
