Your workflows?
Tuesday, September 19, 2017 by JSpencer2000 | Discussion: SkinStudio Help
Hi all.
To the pros and the regular skinners alike. I was curious what your workflow is for making your skins. I guess I am mainly looking for ideas on a process.
Do you use screenshots and then cut up your images?
Do you visualize your colors and fonts first?
Do you go one by one through each section or just what suits you?
These are the types of things I am curious about. Don't have to answer the above specifically. Just examples.
=D

I definitely have a pallet too. It's an important part of my theme actually.
Thanks for the response gmc2! =D

I design the start menu first and base everything else in the skin on it and it's colors. As far as initial colors, I just look through a pallet and pick one I like and work from there. I sometimes do a skin just off an idea that pops into my head too. There are so many possibilities...

Do you work with a template image of some kind? Or just kind of use any sizes you want to achieve the vision?

Templates for some and then there are some images that are a fixed size. A template may be a 29x29 square with a dot in the middle to make circular images, just a guide really. Same with the start menu, I have several (20 or so) that I can use for a starter background and even then they may get changed depending on what looks good.
To be honest trail and error is what you'll probably end of doing on a lot of things. I can't tell you how many times I've made something only to decide I didn't like it and redo the whole section.

Haha. I know that feeling. I re-did my taskbar buttons several times trying various things. I suspect a change again through out the process.

I usually make a color pallet first. Then create from scratch whatever I have an idea for at the time or, as time goes on, what needs to be finished.
