SOLVED: Cybereason RansomFree
Saturday, August 26, 2017 by gevansmd | Discussion: Personal Computing
I've been getting messages that the software could not start for some unknown reason. I decided to download the latest from their website. Unfortunately, when installing 2.4.0 it wants to use the old 2.2.7 installer to uninstall the version I was running., which I overwrote when I downloaded the new one. I can't use control panel uninstall for the same reason so now I'm stuck. Can anyone email the older installer? I'll send my personal email via a PM here if you can help. Thanks!

Good to hear. I've been fairly impressed with Acronis support, although the app itself being a bit more intuitive & explicit wouldn't hurt.

Agree, Daiwa.
As for Cybereason? Installed 2.4.0.0 no probs, and didn't ask me for a different installer... Maybe your uninstall wasn't complete? Or, maybe you should have rebooted after the uninstall because perhaps the prior version still had files running in RAM and that interfered with the install?

Not to hijack this thread too much, but as an example: I recently needed to delete some backups from my destination drive to free up room & after the knowledge base instructions got me nowhere, the procedure the Acronis support tech had me go through bore no resemblance to the knowledge base instructions (even violated them in one aspect) and involved temporarily disabling a feature in the app before backup files could be deleted, something mentioned nowhere in the knowledge base link.
That sort of thing.

The uninstaller is also the installer. When I overwrote the old install msi with the new one so went my old uninstaller. Once it was recovered it used the old installer to unistall the old version. Must be part of its own protection against being uninstalled by third party means. And of course 2.27 would not recognize the 2.4 installer/uninstaller.

In my case Acronis did not recognize any of its backup files. It kept saying can't find version 3, then version2 then version 1 and back again.

I am having issues with this myself can anyone link the needed folder or application to a basic computer user to fix this?

Never mind, Acronis support helped me get the file from backup and I was able to unistall 2.2.7 and install 2.4.
