WB skinning question

Friday, April 25, 2003 by SweetDreams | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I'm sorry to disturb the board with my idiotic question but I'm going a little bit crazy with trying to find a way to do this...

Is there a way to make your top window frame image (the main one with the title text and buttons etc.) look consistent when you minimize the size manually with your cursor? I notice my skin gets cut-off looking towards the upper left when sized at its smallest window size and I'm disgusted with myself because I can't figure out how to fix this.

Thank you to anyone who can help. And if you can't thank you for reading this anyhow, I'll keep trying my best.

***Peace***

Do you mean when you rollup the window? If so under window borders, in the "miscellaneous options" section there is an attribute called "rollup window height" change this to the sum of the height of the top and bottom frames. ex. if the top of the window is 32 pix high and the bottom is 4, you want to set the rollup height to 36 and it should look right. Hope that helps

No, but thank you. I mean...when you...ack...how do you say? Uh. Scootch the window closed horizontally to it's smallest size possible? And some skinners do a flawless job of incorporating the upper bar into itself at even the smallest window size.

This is hard for me to explain as you see

Hard for me to understand as well I would say you want to mess with the margins in skinstudio, probably the top and bottom ones

If I'm still off maybe you could post a pic of what it's doing?

I have but the margins only seem to effect how the actual image is stretched/tiled but I don't know if there is a way to control how the upper taskbar looks when at it's smallest size...like if you can control that? Or perhaps an image mask is needed or an alternat image for the upper left taskbar when sized down so that it still looks good and consistent rather than cut off like a piece of cardboard sizing into itself.

This is getting harder and harder to explain the harder I try.

Thank you so much for trying to help me, knatzz. Any and all input is always appreciated.

try putting the left and right margins a bit higher maybe that will work? I'm just guessing here.

I'm depressed now. The thing is...it's probably something really easy and I'll feel stupid once I figure it out.

Ok, here's my explaination, the bar stretches the image to wherever the margins are set, the right side I believe takes presidence ove the left, and when the window gets too small to include everything, it will just display what it can usually the right side with the buttons, I don't think there is a way around this, but post that screen and name some other skins as examples so I know if I am on the right track

Yikes. I would if my skin wasn't crashing...the code checks out in skinstudio but now it can't load so something is amiss. AHHHHHHH. Believe me, you don't want this skin crashing your system.

Well, now I'm glad I make backup copies. Blech! I'm gonna have to find out what the prob is.

I know why it's doing that, i've been through it, if you set your margins to overlap on the titlebar, then the skin will crash, I've seen this first hand

Thank you so much, knatz...REALLY and TRULY.

Yes, we must stick together...I'm not quite skinner status yet but I'm trying.

I'm so in awe of all the skinners here that I feel kinda lowly and pathetic but I'm making slow progress.

Hey, I'm a noob, for the record. I said skinner for lack of a better term, not meaning it as a title like some folks have. I'd say us noobs have to stick together but we don't cause the great ones around here (they know who they are) always help when they can. Ya know, I think I've learned just as much from lurking on this site as I have from reading books on the subject. (knatzz stands up on a table in the middle of the room like a drunken fool and thanks the entire sight in a cheesey dramatic scene that embarasses everyone present)
