well I'd seen some other articles about them looking into using the powerlines but wasnt aware they were using it anywhere yet. Unfortunatly the article is rather lacking in details tho so cant really tell whats what. No names no details of cost no info on various speeds and such so for me its really just a teaser thing. Still think its a cool idea just wish the article had more meat to it hehe

This site says it is 4 times faster than DSL OR Cable hookups. I'm still lokking for actual figures about speeds.

This isn't really news, the technology exists since a long time. It's just so far, they haven't marketed it to the general public. Internal Hydro companies have been using it for communications for a few years already.
But anyway, where I live high speed is already cheap, not much more expensive than dial-up. DSL or Cable is about $30.00/month (Canadian $ - which equate to about $20.00 US). It explains why a lot more Canadian are hooked up on high speed than Americans.

This is great and all, but there's static in the electrical lines that could really skrew up the connection and I don't want to be downloading a program and have it skrewed up by the static. Just one byte off and it's all trashed. I dunno. Great idea, though since most people do have electrical sockets in their houses.

I think the eventual problem will be the monopoly status of the folks who have the powerlines. Think about it, they could charge whatever they want, no competition. If all the high-speed ISPs can't use the electrical lines, I dunno that any of them will be able to. The rest will scream unfair practices.
If they all end up able to, and it works, I think it would be the death of high-speed access over residential lines. I kind of doubt it would be much cheaper though. Once consumers get used to a price, there is no need for ISPs to lower it. If they can do it cheaper, it is just more profit.

Been waiting 2 years for ADSL, never! going to get cable.
BT wanted to sell me ADSL Satellite, £1,000 or so to install it £130 a month for access

I have heard the delay is evil on satellite connections. Kind of like watching a satellite interview on the news. I was told it was fine for surfing and such, but online games are out of the question.

yeah ADSL 512k is only £25 a month here, but my problem with them is BT are not going to upgrade the exchange till they get 400 Users for Lanarkshire. Currently only have 130 and this survey thing for ADSL was put out early last year or so, atleast at one stage with some companies here that put numbers up, but since the market had gone upside down few times that finnished them off and is taking even longer.
Was kind of hoping because new Health Clinic went in last year, wee were all suppose to get ADSL but unfortunately that did not happen, so back to waiting game again.

Well, in Australia, I pay $85 per month for cable with a 3GB download limit and if I go over, it's .15cents per MB! Talk about a rip off! And it's proving unreliable, which frustrates the hell out of me!!

Well, in Canada, I pay $30 for cable access and I get 10 Gb transfer. More than enough.

Western Canada (Albert) I pay $45 for cable. Still, I wouldn't be without it.

I have 3 choices where I live................. 1.Satellite (too expensive), 2.use the crappy phone line, or 3.don't connect......... 
I asked the phone company about ISDL, and the lady knew exactly what I was talking about, then she informed me, they have no intention of ever installing the equipment needed for IDSL....... grrrrrrrr >

im stickin with dialup till i get a better job, so then i can aford broadband/cable damn minimum wage
