for me, the little icons on the left of the thread titles are staying in the "there are new posts in this thread" image, after I've looked at them already and there have been no updates.

No, I was having problems with Build 9 of SDC not showing me that there were new messages.
After I reset the list it appeared to start updating properly.
But I am aware of that problem you mentioned.

Everything seems to be working just fine now, just updated SDC an hour ago.
