Windows XP suddenly running much slower? This may be why...

Here's a link that covers the story about how XP Patch 811493 can slow some XP systems down to a crawl. I know I've been fretting because my 2-week old system suddenly went from a speed demon to a sloth. It took it forever to do anything. After uninstalling the patch, my machine is back to its wonderful speedy self.
I'm not recommending that anybody uninstall the patch, just passing along information so that you can make an informed decision...

jj...I develop enterprise level software for very large corporations. These are developed using MS products and are extremely technical in nature. I have been using win2000 since it came out and have not had one blue screen of death yet.
Many of my clients do have linux web servers. Do you know what a web server does?...Not much actually...just takes requests and serves up responses (usually with some sort of server side scripting thrown in). I would think with nearly 40 years of development, linux would be more stable doing this than any 'new-commer' would. That's why most companies use linux/unix servers.
As for serious development, I've seen very little of it done in corporate environments with linux.

"Usually the people that say Windows work just fine are the people that only use their computer for less advanced uses such as playing solitaire. People who do more technical things with their computer know first hand the short comings of Windows."
Yeah, sure... Sitting at my job (IT) and at home doing nothing more than playing solutaire.
