Not sure whether I was bored shitless or high because of my meds.
Whether I was completely out of my cotton pickin' mind and suffered with temporary insanity...
Or had somehow been influenced by external forces and had behaved in a way I otherwise wouldn't.
Like there I was, minding my own business... and other peoples, when I came across this webpage about free upgrades to Windows 10 for people on Win 7 and 8.1 who are using 'Assistive Technologies'. Now being I wouldn't have willingly done this, I must have fallen into a trance or something - like MS had hidden subliminal 'gotta get it' messages in the page - because the next thing I knew I came to and was running Windows 10 on what was a Win 8.1 only machine.
Hang on, still a bit hazy so I'm gonna double check.
Damn, danm and double damn! Fech, fech and double fech it!
Yup, I'm running fechen horrible Win 10 on my beloved AMD big beastie. See, I knew MS wasn't done forcing Win 10 down peoples throats. Couldn't palm it off on enough people during the advertised 'free period', so they come up with another scheme to 'suck' people in... with a webpage that hypnotises people with subliminal messages saying "ya gotta get it", "ya gotta get it". I mean, people who resisted for the whole year in the first 'free period' wouldn't do it of their own accord, would they... and I know I was hynotised because I came to with a huge headache. I always get a huge headache after being hypnotised.
Can you imagine it, going to sleep with Windows 8.1 and waking up with Windows 10? Twice? It happened on my HP 2-in-1 laptop as well... and I don't even like Windows 10.
Yeah, I know! A lot of you are going to say, "There he goes again, starkers and another of his conspiracy theories", but I swear it's true. I have the huge headache to prove it... not to mention an OS I don't like.
So let this be a warning to you. Don't go to that free Windows 10 page for users with Assistive Technologies unless you are impervious to hypnotism and subliminal messages. Seriously, I read that a very large number of visitors to the page end up leaving with Win 10, so it's not just a coincidence. THEY ARE OUT TO GET YOU!
I suppose, though, if you really want Windows 10 for free still, you'd probably want to get over to that page sooner rather than later cos it mightn't be there long. However, if you don't want Win 10, avoid that page like the plague. Don't do as I did, "oh look, glossy stuff" and fall for the glossy advertising, cos it will ensnare you.
And it won't be a case of 'oh look, you have Windows 10', it'll be a case of Windows 10 has you.

Better you than me as I'll run W7 till its not supported anymore.
And I'll run Win 8.1 on my Intel machine until it's no longer supported. I don't like Win 10, but some programs I use were updated for 10 and no longer run too well [or at all] on Win 8.1... even when using 'Windows Compatability Settings'.
Hope you made a system image backup!!!

However, it had nothing to do with the word 'free'. No siree! It'd have to be better than free. Like MS paying me to take it. That's never gonna happen, though. No, it was the glossy advertising that mezmerised me. Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I am running Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 on the same desktop. Not once have I been forced to upgrade my Windows 7 or 8.1 to Windows 10.

I currently own around 25 PC's and laptops. All but one are running Windows 10. I love it!!

Basically Win 10, despite all it's faults, is one I like to play with. Even though I want to shoot it sometimes. Dl'd the ISO and mounted it in explorer then clicked the .exe for a clean install. Redid all my programs and back up and running in less time than I thought. There's been two updates since then. The first one changed the icons back to default, IP changed 'em back. Second update went smooth as glass, nothing was affected. So yeah...I'm kinda likin' it.

Maybe that's because you already have Win 10 on that machine... perhaps? I don't know why some people had no issues with being forced to Win 10 during the free upgrade period while others had no end of issues. Put it this way, I know of more people who had issues than those who didn't. I guess some small minority were lucky.
Thing is, now that the free upgrade period is over, MS has stopped pusshing Win 10 so forcefully and is now offering these free upgrades without the heavy handed approach. It doesn't make right what they did wrong, but with this new offer, at least users are in control as to whether they move to 10 or not....
.... unless they're susceptible to 'glossy stuff', subliminal messages and hypnotism.

Been reading the different replies all day.
Windows 10 have no problem with it and it's actually pretty nice. I actually make my Windowblinds on my win 7 machine but again do enjoy the use of win 10.
Was never forced to upgrade the win7 machine. I knew the few "KP#" not to install when upgrading so nothing was ever forced to upgrade to win 10.
Out of all the different situations people have had to deal with I have one main situation. It's the title of this thread.

There are some who like it, but I'm not a fan. However, if MS weren't forcing unnecessary/unwanted updates down my throat each month, most often breaking things that can take a while to fix, I would like it a lot better.
It took me a while using 3rd party programs to get it more to how I wanted on my HP 2-in-1, not that I'm saying I like it or anything, but I am happier with 10 than I was at the beginning.

That 'd be house...with one in every room, as well as the inhouse, outhouse, hen house and guest house... which used to be the old hen house until the wooluf found a way in and was feasting on chicks, young hens, old hens and old boilers.

You are like most users, with a love hate relationship that can become most frustrating at times.... but who knows, maybe MS will get it right one day. I'm not holding my breath, though.

I didn't claim that it was just last night. No, it was just the really, really stupid thing in most recent memory, and thus, the only one I could remember.

Yes, it was April 1st in Europe and the US when I wrote it, but not a lot was left of it here in Oz at the time, so no, it wasn't an April Fool's thing.... though now I sometimes wish it had been.
Seriously, though, it hasn't been too bad thus far, with nothing of major consequence having gone wrong thus far. Thing is, I wanted/needed to run some programs that weren't working properly on Win 8.1, and I couln't go back to Win 7, so my decision was based on need and practicality.... though I still think Microsoft was behind it

Dont feel too bad Starkers, you're not the only one that has done the upgrade unwillingly. Same thing happened to me a while ago. Ended up doing a fresh install of Win 7. I am now extra careful on what "upgrade" links I click on.

I refurbish PCs for resale. I also build gaming rigs, repairs, virus removal, etc. I have a shop. Currently I have 5 eight core rigs, 2 six cores, 5 quads, and a bunch of dual cores. Not to mention laptops, tablets, and all in ones.
I have a salesman to whom I pay a commission. He posts ads on Facebook, Craigslist, etc.
