WindowBlinds Pay To Play
It'll Cost Ya
Tuesday, March 28, 2017 by DarkStar _ Destroyer | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
I've been using WindowBlinds for several years. I can't help but notice the greatly increased number of new WB downloads that cost money. There were always a few, but now the ones that cost seem to outnumber the ones available for free. Nickel and diming customers is a very effective way to lose customers.

To add to Jafo's reply, Stardock/WinCustomize has very little if anything to do with how many skins are free and how many are paid skins.
The decision as to whether or not a skin is free is completely decided by the skinner. If he/she is a master.

How true! Stardock may receive a small part of the payment for hosting costs, etc, but the skinners are the ones who decide which skins are free and which are master skins, at which price. At the end of the day however, it's up to the individual as to whether or not they purchase them.
Thing is some Master skinners still release free skins, and there's still quite a few free skins released by non-master skinners, so there is a reasonable balance and plenty to choose from.

Well, I understand that the next Win 10 release will have a lot more themes...

Well I now know not to bother... not that I would have anyway. MS' themes never did it for me; hence my OD subscription and being a member here at WC. With what's on offer here in the way of themes/skins, and a collection of wallpapers I've collected over the years, I can assemble some pretty amazing desktops that leave anything MS comes up with for dead.
MS may know software [though that's debatable sometimes] but it knows sh!t about themes.

The reason for that is two-fold.
1. There are fewer skinners still doing Windowblinds skins than there were 10 years ago - the process has become more complex and time-consuming....
and
2. Many of the skins you see recently uploaded are actually existing skins being updated for Windows 10.
It's nothing at all to do with 'Nickel and diming customers' as there are still many MORE free skins than there are Master/Commercial ones by a significant magnitude...
