CD-DVD Drive Vanishes

Tuesday, February 21, 2017 by S J N | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

My cd-dvd drive sometimes vanishes. Example: Sunday I copied several cd's to my computer. No problem.

Yesterday and Today, the drive does NOT want to show up. I have not installed any new software since last week.

System restore didn't fix it. Would love some help on this one.

Please and thank you.

Just looked at MSCONFIG and am looking at Selective startup which is selected. What if I changed it to Normal startup?

You could try, if it's a desktop turn it off, unplug it and hold the start button in for 10 seconds. If it's a laptop, turn it off and take out the battery then hold the start button in for 10 seconds. I lost my card readers on my desktop and this is the way they came back.

Maybe it is not recognizing the drive any more because the drive has failed, or a cable failure? Have you tried another drive?

Thanks ALMonty. This worked. I hope it lasts.

AlMonty, I need to thank you once again. Your solution fixed more than I expected.

Startup and Shutdowns are much faster too. A few other things that were not working properly are now working.

Thank you so much for your valuable response.

Well now that caught my attention.  Does anybody know what this actually does?:
