Thinking of creating my own Web page........

Any help would be appreciated, like where to start, what to do and any help on creating the graphics/pages etc.........as you can tell i'm totally new at it all.

I did one recently. Can't seem to finish it. Just a small family site or whatever. Allready changed the home page 3 times, never satisfied. 
Sure is fun to play with though. What are you thinking of putting on your site?

I am building on my site right now, can't get my apache get connected to a database... frustrating, but sure fun to play with 
Yeah, try dreamweaver, it helps a lot. You also might have some looks into java.

Don't use an app. I know it sounds all 'l33t' but honestly apps are for people who already know how to make pages. It saves them time, not the original education. HTML is a great app, I use it myself, but as a notepad/macro/template tool, not a drag and drop HTML creator.

Once you have a grasp of HTML ( probably no more than an afternoon ) and can debug what an webdesign app screws up, you can comfortably use one. Dreamweaver's learning curve is honestly a lot higher than HTML.
If you really want to do it right, I have found that a local server is much, much more convenient for learning. Find a free one, set it up, and then there is no hassle with uploading files via FTP while you are learning.
An easy one to get and install is OmniHTTPd: http://www.omnicron.ca/
Apache is another good choice, though not quite as easy to set up: http://httpd.apache.org/
The server is not necessary, I just like to be able to test stuff without uploading every I change something. If you aren't behind a router or firewall, don't leave it running all the time, your ISP would probably frown upon it, and you risk the server's security issues.

Styl skinner: You'll connect to your database from whatever scripting language you are using, since database software is generally a seperate app. Your Apache config shouldn't have anything to do with it. In php with MySQL you would use the mysql_connect() function.

Think about a structure for your webpage and the names for the different HTML documents before firing along.
Like putting all the files in one directory and naming them 01.xxx, 02.xxx is not a good idea ..

I'm redoing my site with a new style and a new web address.
DM, I suggest you do what bakerstreet said first. Learn HTML and use like notepad. Webmonkey is a great place to get the info you need to learn that. They even have a nice chart you can print out. Once you get a handle on HTML and how it works. Then move on to a program like Dreamweaver. I use Dreamweaver and to get it exactly the way you want it, you have to edit some tags and move things yourself in the coding. Just like bakerstreet said, it's for people that know HTML but to help them create things faster.
I will know like next month on where I'll be going to school at. Like where this one goverment place will help pay for. I'm looking at ITT for web Development to learn more and to be able to create some amazing stuff.
O', DM, I'm stuck on my enter graphic. I would of had some of my site done already but I want that done first so it's just taking me longer then I realized. But here is a semi simple design that I'm doing just for a messegner profile.

I have to say, Dreamweaver is indrusty standard... but i never use it. At times I find that the page I design with it will work on explorer but not on other browsers or work on Netscape and not Explorer.
Anyway you'll still find yourself going into the code and changin stuff. So just learn HTML. Then learn Flash. Personally you should get a gif animator too for simple animations (Flash is not the end to be all in graphics)
Draw out wht you want and what you want on it. igure out how you will set up your folders (or database if that is wht your going to use) and hook it up.
Done
The design prossess will be the longest part of what you'll do. That will make HTML look easy. Figuring out what you want it to lok like and function will be hard.

Yep, I'm still lost on the new design I want. I sortof of the idea, just don't know how to go about to do it. I've been stuck for several months now
